Biography, Acting Career And Other Endeavors Of Andy Lau
Andy Lau is a proficient Chinese entertainer who has exercised great potentials in acting, producing, and music. He is regarded as one of the most-successful Chinese actors. The talented star has set different Guinness World Records and has equally received lots of accolades for his exceptional performances.
Born in Tai Po, Hong Kong on the 27th of sept 1961; Andy Lau was considered to be born into a wealthy family as his grandfather was a landowner and his father a fireman. He moved to the slum of Diamond Hill with his father when he was six; where he attended his inconclusive secondary education at Ho Lap College in San Po Kong, Kowloon. During his acadmic years, Andy was well known as Lau Fook-wing due to his academic potentials.
Soon after he dropped out of high school, Andy Lau began his career. At first, he signed up with Hong Kong-based television broadcasting company (TVB) where he eventually began his acting career in 1981. He made his first stint in the movies while appearing in the 1982 television series titled The Emissary. He went on to play the role of Yang Guo in the then popular series known as The Return of Condor Heros, his impressive performance in the series earned him a spot in the limelight.
Subsequently, Andy landed a role in an All-Star challenge series tagged the Five Tiger Generals of TVB, because the series also stars the likes of Felix Wong, Kent Tong, Tony Leung and Michael Miu, which were the then most popular young actors and singers in Hong Kong. Afterward, he played minor roles in Teddy Robin's movie titled Once Upon a Rainbow. Interestingly, Andy also appeared in Boat People, The Truth, On the wrong Track, and As Tears Go By in the later 80's.
During the '90s, Andy Lau starred in a handful of movies including A Fighter's Blue, Running out of Time, A Moment of Romance, Infernal Affairs and House of Flying Dragon. Andy was named the box office number one actor from 1985 to the year 2005 in Hong Kong, which earned him a box office total of about 1. 7 billion Hong Kong Dollar.
In the same 2005, on the 1st of June, a wax figure of Andy was erected at the Madame Tussauds of Hong Kong, because of his numerous benefactions. Andy equally got the Nielsen Box Office Star of Asia awarded to him by the Nielsen Company in 2007.
Andy was such a talented man that did exhibit his skills by naturally embodying different roles that have been given him in many movies, but also nurtured new talents in the Asian Film Industry. He started up his own production coy in 1991, called Teamwok Motion Pictures, which received a name change in 2002 to Focus Group Holdings Limited. The company did so well that in 2006; she earned him an award in the Pusan Internation Film Festival as that Asian Filmmaker of the year. Some of his award winning movies include A Simple Life, A Fighter's Blues which is the 100th movie he produced and Made in Hong Kong. Andy also has action blockbusters Shock Wave and Firesorm which had very huge budgets. In addition, Andy Lau was an all-around entertainer and generally a hard worker. He released his first album in 1985 titled Only Know that I Still Love You, under Capital Artists, this particular album didn't do well as it was not a big hit, but his success in the music industry showed that with hard work and perseverance results can be achieved. Despite not having a voice generally associated with popular music, Andy became one of the most successful singers in Cantopop.
His career in the music industry reached the Stellar's in 1990; after he released his album titled Would It Be Possible. It also earned him a spot at the RTHK award category every year consecutively until 2007.
