George W. Bush is the 43rd United States President. Prior to securing the Presidency seat, he contested in the Texas gubernatorial election in 1994 and emerged victoriously. After serving for one term, Bush stepped down in 2000 as he contested in the US presidential election in the same year and emerged as the winner, serving from 2001 to 2009.As a businessman, the former US was a co-owner of a baseball team called Texas Rangers and also founded an oil company, Bush Exploration in the '80s. George W. Bush has authored multiple books including A Charge to Keep, 41: A Portrait of My Father, Decision Points, Portraits of Courage and others. He has also been honored with several titles and awards such as Order of the Star of Romania, Philadelphia Liberty Medal and NME Award for Villian of the Year for three consecutive times, precisely, the year 2007, 2008 and 2009.
The former United States President was born as George Walker Bush in New Haven, Connecticut on 6th July 1946 to his parents, George Herbert Walker and Barbara Bush. His father was a top politician who served as the 43rd US Vice President for two tenures which spanned from 1981 to 1989 when he was elected as the United States President. He also served as a US Congressman before passing away on 30th November 2018. While his mother, a former US First Lady, established the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. Bush was brought up in Texas together with his five siblings, John Ellis 'Jeb', Neil Mallon, Marvin Pierce, Dorothy Koch and Pauline Robinson 'Robin' Bush who died of leukaemia when she was three years old. His younger brother, John Ellis 'Jeb' Bush is also a top politician. He was a former Governor of Florida and also a Presidential Candidate during the 2016 US Presidential election.
With reference to his educational achievements, George W. Bush completed his basic education from different high schools which include The Kinkard School and Phillips Academy. He achieved his Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and further acquired a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School which made him the only American President to have earned such educational qualification. Upon his graduation from the university, the American businessman was enlisted into the Texas Air National Guard in 1968. He was respectfully laid off from the Air Force Reserve six years later. Bush contested for a seat in the United States House of Representatives in 1978 and failed to win. In spite of the loss, George W. Bush resiliently ran for Texas gubernatorial seat in 1994 and emerged victoriously, serving from 1995 to 2000. He further declared candidacy for the 2000 US Presidential election, which he won with a narrow margin and was eventually re-elected in 2004 for a second term.
Eight months after he became President, the 9/11 attack took place. Bush responded by going to war in Afghanistan and Iraq. During his administration, he enforced the law of broad tax cuts, the Patriot Act and many others. His administration, however, was criticised based on the manner by which he managed the economy which led to one of the worst economic crisis recorded in the history of America as well as the improper handling of Hurricane Katrina. After he was succeeded by Barack Obama, Bush and his family moved to Texas and settled down in Preston Hollow, Dallas.
