Verizon’s structure of business is likely to lean more on the modern side of organizations. This is because they connect millions of people across the globe, their global standpoint is quite high. Their global condition has increasing network opportunities, better access to new markets and greater competition. When establishing the structure of a business, you must look at both the traditional and modern side of it. On the traditional side it is more hierarchical and rigid whereas modern is more flat and fluid. Verizon is clearly, flat, fluid, integrated and global. Flat refers to their ability to react faster to environment changes and fluid is Verizon’s ability to adapt to change.

Furthermore, Verizon is an integrated organic business as they are keen on sharing information and making alliances outside the organization, this is shown in their offers to smaller start-up companies and Canadian company Wind. Verizon is also global in structure as they have better access to new market and increased networking opportunities.

Analysis

After analyzing the four elements of organizational structure, Verizon is better suited to be an organic structure. This is because Verizon is known to be a giant leader in telecommunications community, they are known as “innovators, technologist, problem solvers and Engineers”. Verizon also aims to make a positive impact through society as it grows. An organic organization has a variety of tasks or responsibilities, an organic approach is a team based approach. Furthermore, an organic organization influences organizations on technology, environment and strategy. Verizon has shown to have these qualities, through their innovative ways of offering Wind an agreement and struggling start up carriers. As well as striking a deal to purchasing million miles of optical fiber to help boost capacity and lower their wireless network delays.

I believe that Verizon is indeed an organic structure after understanding the four elements of organizational structure. This is proved through Verizon’s big way of expanding globally, a company constantly growing is bound for improvement and changes, it cannot remain the same forever. Therefore, at one point, yes, Verizon may have been a traditional bureaucracy, but in today's society that has love changed. The times are changing and so are big corporations, they must adapt to their society and what the people want. This is also proven through Verizon’s deal of purchasing optical fiber to boost their capacity and lower their network delays. If Verison were a rigid company they would not have made that purchase or the deal with Canadian company Wind. Verizon is an integrated organization with a global stand.
