Teaching: Facing Challenges of a Noble Profession
To start with, this is challenges of being a teacher essay in which will be discussed why it's sometimes difficult to be a teacher as it is a noble profession. Teaching has been long considered a noble profession, and it's not hard to see why. When someone is willing to dedicate their time and efforts to an idea or a person, it shows how much they truly believe in what they are doing. It takes a lot of patience and kindness for someone else's development as an individual. Long-term effects should also be taken into account because learning something new will always help you succeed in a certain field down the road. Most of us can agree that teaching is an honourable field that sometimes can create challanges as you need to to meet high standards.
“A teacher is never an ordinary person. Construction and destruction can be produced in his lap” – Chanakya. This quote shows a teacher is an awesome person because their profession is very challenging, so it makes this one of the reasons why teaching is considered a noble profession. Teaching is not an easy task as we see. Being a teacher, you have to face a great challenge in increasing the passion of students at different school levels, especially in adolescents. As we all know, students at this age are more attracted to attention to their social life and development issues. This makes them stubborn and hard to handle. Therefore, as a teacher, it is our responsibility to guide them to a right path which is far from any crime or misconduct. Statistics show that criminal offences among adolescents, especially students, are on the rise. According to Senior Vice Chairman of Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, statistics of student arrests in index crime in 2017 recorded a total of 1,722 students arrested while in 2018, a total of 1,286 students were arrested. Police Chief of Johor, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay also said, among the highest crime index offences involving students were motorcycle theft, other thefts, injuring people, burglary, rape and robbery. This proves why teaching is considered a challenging profession because a teacher has to deal with these types of students every day. However, not all students in adolescents are obstinate and hard to handle. Some of them also reduce their teacher’s burden by always listening to their teacher and being a good student. In conclusion, the reason why teaching is a challenging profession is the reason why teaching is a noble profession.
Next, teaching is also considered a noble profession because, as a teacher, we have to play the role of actress, comedian, coach, cheerleader, parent, juggler, and super organized multi-tasker every day. We are a superhero without a cape. A teacher has to make sure there is never a dull moment in the classroom. Basically, according to RGS Teacher Lounge, being a teacher challenges you intellectually, creatively, and emotionally to be the best you can be. There is a big responsibility as a teacher. For instance, a teacher has to make sure students are enjoying their classes and understand the subjects well. There is no point if the students are not fancying their classes because they will never be sincere in studying and going to school. Moreover, they will also not understand and master the subject. This will affect their future as they are not earnest during their school time. Mahatma Gandhi once said ‘the future depends on what we do in the present.’ Therefore, teachers play a big role in making sure their students enjoy every moment in the school. This proves why teaching is considered a noble profession.
Last but not least, Abdul Kalam once said ‘teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, calibre, and future of an individual. If people remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honour for me.’ This means this profession also shapes a person to be better. It is because, being a teacher, good behaviour must be emphasized like how a teacher should behave and never say to students. There are many examples’ behaviours of good teachers. For instance, a good teacher always sets challenging goals for learning, makes expectations clear both orally and in writing, sets consequences for non-completion of work, encourages students to write and speak well, discusses class progress and communicates the importance of high academic standards. All of these examples can guarantee the formation of quality teachers. This also shows why teaching is considered a noble profession.
Finally, all of these reasons show why teaching is considered a noble profession. There are also words that say ‘teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions.’ Ben Davis also said teaching is the noblest among all the professions since all professionals underwent education with a teacher, it is the parent of all professions. Real teachers teach us everything including preparation to face real life. More generally, some have described teachers as ‘agents of the future’ because they help people acquire the skills necessary to take on new challenges and contribute to the world in meaningful ways. To sum up, we have to be proud and appreciate people in this glorious field, because they are the reason who we are today.
