Cheating And Fighting In Sports
In today’s day and age technology has taken over many lives, especially the youths in our society. Many children rely on their computers and phones for entertainment, social media, and for educational purposes as well. Many Canadian youths are becoming increasingly more inactive as they become older, meaning they do not obtain the substantial health benefits, this deveoples more health risks including obesity. Not only that but 37% of adults do not even reach 15 minutes of MVPA daily, connoting that more canadian youths and adults are becoming more dormant.
In my opinion being active is highly important, being health and eating health will give an individual many benefits such has having a strong immune system, reducing their risk of chronic diseases, weight loss, which can all lead to living a longer and happier life. Additionally, being more active and health also means that an individual is to be more physically active and have good stamina, this is beneficial as you get older and start having kids as it will allow you to keep up with your kids and also enjoy the same activities as them. However on the other hand, being more health and active can be very time consuming, it is very difficult for individuals who have a full time jobs and families to look after. Furthermore, eating health is also more pricer and people who work minimum wage jobs may find it harder to keep up with the healthier lifestyle financially.
Winning for many athletes is highly crucial, they have the constant need to impress everyone around them including their fans and coaches. Not to mention, many athletes will go the extra mile to win, including cheating. Some athletes use drugs to enhance their performance, however, there are always consequences to using drugs for an example “East German swimmer Rica Reinisch shot to fame when winning three golds in 1980 olympics at the age of 15… later learned she had been doped by Stasi”. That incident may have led her to winning, however, that also led to her having 2 miscarriages. Similarly, many athletes feel pressure and the need to win for their supporters including their coaches, due to the stress and the fear of possibly losing athlete turn to drugs for winning. It is also important to realize that athletes who use drugs take away opportunities from athletes who have worked for their careers.
In my point of view, cheating in sports defeats the main purpose of playing, and it will always lead to more consequences. Not only that but, cheating is unfair for the athlete who have worked their way to that position, fairly. On the other hand, it is quite understandable why athletes feel the need to cheat, one being that it will guarantee them a win, which will lead to more money, and fame. Some athlete cheats because of financial reasons, and professional athletes who try to extend their career.
The NHL is known for the fights that break out during the games. During a opening game between “the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens – two of the NHL's longest-standing rivals… is being overshadowed by the image of Habs enforcer George Parros lying motionless, face-down on the ice”. Such fights can have many consequences to the player involved, including concussions, and physical damage that may withstand them from playing more games. However, even though we know how dangerous fighting is, the NHL still allows for flights to occurs, but they have created a new rule which gives players an extra 2 minute penalty if they take their helmets off during an altercation. Many people want fighting eliminated from hockey, that way “our players, our kids at risk anymore”. Since fighting has been apart of the hockey league for decades “not everyone is showing support for such a change”.
From my personal standpoint, fighting in hockey should be allowed, it creates more tension between the players and teams, thus keeping fans watching the game at all times. Additionally, due to the tension and fights between teams, it creates more drama and popularity which increases the sales and revenue. Nonetheless, fighting does have many consequences, it puts the players at risks of physical damage, which can be permanent. Furthermore, fights that breakout on ice may also put many fans at risk as well, as it may possibly cause more altercation within the bleachers and other fans.
