Comparing Macbeth And The Social Network Through An Archetypal Lens

Around four hundred years have gone since William Shakespeare formed his last play. Anyway, his composition plots and characters are as alive today as they were the point at which the plays were at first created all through the late sixteenth and mid-seventeenth hundreds of years. in spite of the way that Shakespearian plays are over hundreds of years old the topics and ethics depicted are as yet important in our general public as they are utilized in media today selling out being the primary focal point of this exposition. in life, all connections are shaped based on trust making it the establishment for all kinships and organizations. in spite of the fact that it might be a standout amongst the most fundamental senses, we may have as individuals despite everything we figure out how to confide in the wrong individuals or get exploited by others which as a rule results in physical or enthusiastic torment bitterness outrage and at last selling out. numerous likenesses can be drawn between Macbeth a play composed by Shakespeare in 1606 and The Social Network 2003 coordinated by David Fincher. Macbeth is a disaster about a dependable and once confided in respectable of Scotland who after some impact winds up aggressive and plans the homicide of the ruler which includes picking up trust in a few and misdirecting others. in the wake of doing as such and guaranteeing the honored position he faces the rage of outside powers alongside his inside battles that lead him to his definitive destiny. The Social Network gives knowledge on the development and upset of correspondence facebook. Let’s take a look at how a character from each story can be similar to each other as archetypes.

Firstly, Macbeth and The Social Network are similar to the archetypes with the characters, for example, Eduardo in The Social Network and Banquo in Macbeth. Eduardo and Banquo are similar because at the start of both the play and the movie these characters are helping their friend (Banquo helping Macbeth and Eduardo helping Zuckerberg) and they both are appreciated to their friend and show respect. Here is a quote by Banquo that was talking to Macbeth with a good attitude, “Worthy Macbeth, we stay upon your leisure”. Eduardo and Banquo are similar because they’re both having trouble with their friend because he is out of control and they sometimes get suspicious of their friend because Zuckerberg and Macbeth act differently to Eduardo and Banquo when they reach a higher position and a higher level in their life

At last, Eduardo and Banquo have the same archetypes because when they get suspicious of their friend they both try to help but get rejected over and over again, they also try to revenge after trying to help but themselves as well take a fall.

Secondly, Macbeth and The Social Network are similar to the archetypes with the characters, for example, Mark Zuckerberg and Macbeth. Zuckerberg and Macbeth are similar because they both reach a higher level in life and in their jobs and as well as getting richer by doing something bad to other people. For example, Zuckerberg stole the idea that was first discovered by the Winklevoss twins about making a website that people can post images and communicate with each other and then Zuckerberg stole the idea and worked by himself and Eduardo to make a similar website named The Facebook. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth reaches a higher level and gets richer by killing the king and getting his seat so he can become the king. Here is a quote that Macbeth said to himself before killing Duncan the king of Scotland,

“Methought I heard a voice cry

'Sleep no more! Macbeth does murder sleep', the innocent sleep, Sleep that knits up the ravell'd sleeve of care, The death of each day's life, sore labour's bath, Balm of hurt minds, great nature's second course, Chief nourisher in life's feast”.

Zuckerberg and Macbeth are similar because when they get richer and reach a higher level they forget about their loved ones and best friends and they betray them as well. For example, when Zuckerberg got more famous with Facebook he betrayed his best friend, Eduardo, because he reached a higher level and also because he was jealous of Eduardo. That is similar to Macbeth because when Macbeth reached a higher position as the king, he forgot about his wife which he loved before and also he kills Banquo his best friend. “It must be done tonight, away from the palace. Always remember that I must be free from suspicion. For the plan to work perfectly, you must kill both Banquo and his son, Fleance, who keeps him company. Getting rid of Fleance is as important to me as knocking off Banquo.” This quote is said by Macbeth when he was telling the plan about killing Banquo and his son to the murderers.

Lastly, Macbeth and The Social Network are similar to the archetypes with the characters, for example, Lady Macbeth and Sean Parker. Lady Macbeth and Sean Parker are similar because they both try to convince the tragic hero to commit something that will change their life in a bad way for the rest of their life. For example, when Sean Parker suggests to bring more workers to the company which affected Eduardo’s share of money which was brought way down because of Sean Parker’s idea. In the play Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is similar to Sean Parker because she as well -convinces- Macbeth to kill Duncan which was Macbeth’s cousin and Macbeth did not want to hurt him but Lady Macbeth convinces him and he kills Duncan and becomes the king of Scotland. Here is a quote told by Lady Macbeth to Macbeth himself before he kills Duncan,

“We fail!

But screw your courage to the sticking-place, And we'll not fail. When Duncan is asleep

Whereto the rather shall his day's hard journey Soundly invite him — his two chamberlains

Will I with wine and wassail so convince That memory, the warder of the brain, Shall be a fume, and the receipt of reason A limbeck only: when in swinish sleep Their drenched natures lie as in a death, What cannot you and I perform upon The unguarded Duncan? what not put upon His spongy officers, who shall bear the guilt Of our great quell?”

This quote is when Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth about killing Duncan which will be successfully done. Lady Macbeth and Sean Parker are similar to these factors.

In conclusion, the play Macbeth and The Social Network are similar to the archetypes with the characters. The similarities that I found between the characters of the play Macbeth and The Social Network are between the 6 characters, (Eduardo and Banquo), (Macbeth and Mark Zuckerberg) and (Lady Macbeth and Sean Parker). These characters acted really the same and had similar actions throughout both the play and the movie. The play Macbeth and The Social Network are both good and enjoyable and are very similar to each other by the characters if we look at it through the archetypal lens.
