What Our Future Could Be: Personal Statement

In the year 2045, the wreckage from nuclear war was finally cleaned up, everyone guessed that it would happen, but no one wanted to admit it to themselves. A lot of the conspiracists survived, because they were so paranoid that they made shelter, the wealthy survived, because they had shelters prepared for themselves, most of them as old as to be from the fifties. There were only about 1,000 people left on Earth, which is minuscule compared to the billions there used to be. After three months of mass chaos and Anarchy, the most reasonable and intelligent banded together to form a government.

That’s where we are now. As a result of this disaster, it became important for a group of survivors to come together at a convention to lay out a new plan for a new government and laws. There was conflict, with wanting a Constitutional Monarchy, a Direct Democracy, a Representative Democracy, and a Dictatorship, some varying greatly from others. There were benefits to each, like voting for the Democracies and Constitutional Monarchy, and quick decisions involved with a Dictatorship. Most opposed to a Dictatorship greatly in the beginning, because of how corrupt it became in countries who were under it. They became open to the idea after a bit more discussing, because if done right Dictatorship can work effectively. Although Dictatorship was seen more positively, there were still aspects of their governments that they thought were needed, so we will be using aspects of two government types. There wasn’t any conflict with the decisions of the laws and the standards, as we all agreed on the same things. We had eleven laws, to begin with. Six of them we got rid of because they weren’t needed or very similar to others.

The discussion was very beneficial, and we are all pleased with the outcome and believe it will work for generations to come. From our convention discussion, we have decided on a new government as well as a set of laws and expectations. We will be a new type of government, a Representative Dictatorship. It has traits of both a Representative Democracy and a Dictatorship, there will be one branch of power (the Dictator), but the people will still vote and make choices for their government. The Dictator still has the power to overrule decisions, yet the people can protest. We have five simple laws and expectations for the citizens of the new country, Initium Novem. Our people shall be fined and punished, according to the offense. Murder receives severe punishment. In a trial, the judge must remain fair and unbiased in order to provide a fair trial. If an individual wants to purchase a weapon, they must have a background check and mental health screenings to lower gun violence rates and make our country an overall safer place. The people shall be permitted to petition, and punishment for that is illegal, in order to have the peoples voice involved if they strongly oppose something. No one can be accused of something and receive punishment without proper evidence and/or witnesses. These are simple and focus on fairness and safety.

Hopefully our discussions and convention will turn out for the best as we embark on this new adventure. This government with the laws implemented are designed to be fair, and we hope that they will work for the new generations. We want to bring guidance, hope, equality, and justice- what many previous nations valued deeply. The goal is to be what no other governments could accomplish in earlier times. A modern, open-minded government, that truly sees everyone as equal, that helps those in need, provides for our citizens, and grows to adust to issues that may come about.
