In the book Fahrenheit 451 Guy Montag wanted to learn how to understand books even though they were banned. Montag had a career as a fireman, in the book Fahrenheit 451 books were illegal so the firemen would go out or a mechanical hound dog would go out and look for people that had books in their house or people that we're reading books. If they would catch people they would burn the book or put it in a bookroom at the station. On the way home from a long day of work Montag was walking home and met a girl named Clarisse and they talked the whole way home. She asked him a question before they walked into their homes, she asked him “Are you happy?” Montag thought about it at home. Clarisse got hit by a car and Montag was heartbroken. One day on the job Montag and other firemen went to a woman’s house to get her books but before they got the books, she lit the books and herself on fire. After that Montag wondered what was so important about books that people would kill themselves for some books. So Montag stole some books from the book storage room at the station one of them was the Bible. Montag started reading books at home to his wife Mildred she told him it was wrong to be reading books but he didn’t care. Montag could read books but he just didn’t understand what he was reading, so he called a professor named Faber that he knew and Faber wasn’t going to help Montag until he started ripping pages out of the last Bible in the world. Mildred called Captain Beatty about Montag's reading books, Captain Beatty, two other firemen, and the mechanical hound went to Montag's house. Montag and Captain Beatty had an argument and Montag burned him and the other firemen with the flamethrower. After that Montag had to get away from the mechanical hound and ran to professor Faber’s house. After all of that stuff, Guy Montag still managed to read and learn how to understand what he was reading. He never quit on himself or the books.
