Controversial Topic: A Personal Take on Death Penalty

To start with, this is Death Penalty essay in which I am going to share my viewpoint on the issue of death penalty using argumantative examples and personal beliefs. The death penalty is one of the most controversial issues that the Filipino people have ever talked about and debated. The death penalty is imposed on perpetrators of the horrific crimes Murder, Kidnaping, Robbery, Rape and Drug pushing are some of the examples of crimes that can lead to the death penalty. From the time of the Spaniards to the time of Marcos, the death penalty was used in political and economic brutality. Death Penalty was first established date back to the Eighteenth Century B.C. but in the year 2006, death penalty was abolished because of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, also for the reason that the Church is opposed to this law because of the fact that many people have died and it also shows ferocious and unjust. In 1987, death penalty in Philippines used firing squad for death but after re-introduced of the death penalty in 1993 it switched to lethal injection for execution which it is a injection consist of one or more chemicals for the person who was condemned by death.

Republic Act No. Seven Thousand Six Hundred Fifty-Nine, otherwise known as the Death Penalty Law in which there are people who agree with this law for the reason that they believe that this is the way to reduce and lessen the crime in the country however there are also people who disagree with this law because they still believe that every people deserve a chance to live and to correct their mistakes, to live life to the fullest and goodness as well. Some people believe that death penalty has never served the welfare of justice but it is used to move the liberties and rights of the Filipino people. Some people agree because they also believe that death penalty are the solution to suppress crimes. On the other hand, Human Rights watch as well opposes to death penalty because it shows inhuman and cruelty. Also According to the Nation's human rights commission it estimates a toll as high as 27,000 people have died considering of this death penalty. Just like Lee Pilo Echegaray was the first Filipino who sentenced to death by reason of the crime of rape.

Two significant reasons to support or do not support the death penalty. First, because we cannot say that the death penalty will reduce the level of crime in the Philippines. Second, if we talk about government’s finances, still better not to have a death penalty. The law, on the other hand, is that they say that more money will be wasted if the criminals who commit nefarious things are kept alive, but we all know that money or expenses will not be the basis for enforcing the Death Penalty. And if this country really has justice the another solution is to have equality which is that the defendant deserves to have a good and competent lawyer to hold their case in order for them to fight for their rights because if a person sentenced to the Death Penalty is found innocent, there is nothing the Government can do to restore the life that is no more which is not justifiable and especially the family of defendant will be affected because they have done nothing but to accept the fact that their love ones are gone for it was just only a mistake accusations.

Therefore, I strongly disagree to the death penalty on the grounds that it is not the proper solution to solve the country's problem about crimes. We should always remind ourselves that even how sinful the person is, and whatever they have done they should not be killed because it is written in the 10 commandments that we should not kill that's why death penalty should not be executed. God don't want us to act like that because we all created to love and respect each and everyone. Forgiving someone is not a sign of weakness but a sign of a good heart that we are learned to forgive the people who've made a mistake and caused us a lot of pain. Just like the Filipino actress Cherry Pie Picache’s when her mother Zenaida Picache brutally murdered by Michael Flores but in behalf of everything Cherry Pie has found piece to forgive the killer even how painful it is that her mother is no longer alive and can't be with her anymore especially in a brutal way but with the power of kindness Cherry Pie still chose to forgive in order for her to move forward. Taking of one's life is not right and always keep in mind that no one has the right to take it except God because every human life is sacred and deserve to live in behalf of what they have done. We can say that people who commit crime has no right to live but the fact is that we should learn to forgive for the sake of peace of mind and in order for us to heal in heartaches or pain. I believe that a person’s imprisonment is enough to pay for the sin heshe has committed. In all these we can still be sure that in God's eyes justice must still prevail and punishment must be punished.
