Development Of My Leadership Skills For Successful Life
I have gathered the core principle of leadership since I was in primary school, where I held the position of “Peer Group Leader “in 5th grade, My leadership role was extended in the 6th grade as I was elected to be the student school councillor. I had the honor to represent my school on the regional competition for the best student councillor, in which I won the first place in Khartoum state.During my time at university, I organized the “Structural and Sanitary Exhibition” at Engineering week 2012, through this experience, I learned how to create the best alignment within my team, and how to keep them on the right track.
Another remarkable experience was organizing a charity fundraiser to promote children’s rights with Takaful Charity Organization, it rewarding as I integrated a significant amount of soft skills. In addition, I worked alongside two students in my graduation project. I was responsible for preparing time schedules, organizing the field trips, and plan strategies. Despite this project was quite challenging, I maintain a focused determination in pursuing my goal. I used my motivational skills and the positive energy I had to bring out the best in my peers and build the team spirit among them. Fortunately, this hard work paid off and our project was selected to be one of the best projects in the department.
After graduation, I worked as a teaching assistant in civil engineering department. I was supervising a group of 150 students in tutorials and tests, leading small study groups and discussion sessions, and guiding students in their projects. This developed my leadership skills further as I practiced the attitude of listening and communicating effectively with students. Moreover, I was the coordinator of the irrigation engineering course for final year’s student. I was directly responsible for providing the required academic support, identifying the gaps in students’ performance in this subject and setting the appropriate improving plans accordingly.
My position at Practical Consultancy Engineering Company takes me as a leader to the next level as I am currently responsible for supervising and managing the design sector. My tasks include guiding and motivating my team to complete the projects accurately within the scheduled periods, develop strategies and work schedules, delegating tasks, and training of the new employees. Through this position, I explore leadership in business regime in depth, also, I develop many essential skills such as decision making, critical thinking, and project management under stiff time frame. By putting these skills into practice, I was able to managing multiple projects and increasing the productivity of my team, consequently, I have received a recognition award for achieving great successes.
I believe that Chevening scholarship will contribute to my personal development as a global leader by providing me with a strong international network, which will widen my vision and improve my ability to think from a multi-national perspective. Furthermore, I will develop a sense of cultural awareness which makes me more competent to lead people with diverse natures in the future.
