What is feminism? Is feminism, men-hating? Is feminism, dominance of women over men? Is feminism punching one another for equal rights? Is feminism about, women ruling the world? Is feminism about, making women stronger than men? Is supporting feminism a metaphor to supporting terrorism? There are infinite number of questions, but there is just one answer to all these questions, a big “No!” and in this essay about feminism will be presented agruments for this viewpoint.
As quoted by GD Anderson, “Feminism isn’t about making women stronger. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength”. Feminism has often been synonymous with man hating. It has been considered a hated word and a very unpopular one. It is not the word that is important, it is the idea and purpose behind that word. Feminism is defined as the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. There are very few countries in the world where all the women can expect to receive all the rights.
Our society needs feminism, we need feminism because in a social situation, a husband is asked about his work and a wife is asked about her husband. There are slightly more women than men in this world. About 52% of the world’s population is female. But most of the positions of power are occupied by men. The higher we go, the fewer women there are. Women are raised on the concept of certain things not belonging to them. High powered jobs, highly paid positions, being openly opinionated, fighting for what they believe in. The power more likely to lead should not be the physically stronger person, it should be more creative person, the more intelligent and innovative person and there are no hormones for those attributes.
We don't often talk about men being arrested by gender stereotypes. Gender equality is men’s issue too, because a father’s role as a parent is valued less by society. Despite needing a father’s presence is as much as important as a mother’s. Young men suffer from mental illness, unable to ask for help for the fear it would make them less of a man. Men don’t have the benefits of equality either. If men don’t have to be compelled to be aggressive in order to be accepted, women won’t feel compelled to be submissive. Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive and strong.
Feminism isn’t about hating men or harming men, it is not about wanting to rule over men, removing the sovereignty of men, erasing their perspective, discrediting their ideas or ignoring their needs. It is about ending all the aforementioned for women. FEMINISM MEANS EQUALITY. The right to get equally paid , the right to get equal respect, these are human rights.
We live in a new generation where we can say what goes on this nation and let's empower one another. This is 2020 and we are all feminists. Men, women, children. It's not just about the females in this movement. As civilians we are the victim of the hate and crime that appears outside our home. It seems like there's no place to go but remember we are not foes. Now stand with me fellow feminists and recognize the differences from the way we treat young boys and young girls, men and women. There's so much more to offer to your son or your daughter other than their gender.
Overall the ultimate conviction that needs to get triggered is what Joss Whedon rightly said, 'Equality is not a concept. It's not something we should be striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women, and the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition.'
