To become a nurse, you have to go through many years of education. It also takes a great deal of responsibility, mental demands, and physical demands. This is because you have the lives of people in your hands on a daily basis. In this writing, I will explain the job requirements, education, and salary for becoming a registered nurse.
A registered nurse takes on a lot of responsibility on a day-to-day basis. Their duties largely depend on who they work with and where they work. According to onetonline.org, “They assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records.” Nurses operate and monitor medical equipment, so they are able to perform diagnostic tests and analyze results. They also can work with healthcare specialists, physicians, nursing assistants, practical nurses, and home health aides. In addition, being a resisted nurse puts a lot of physical demands on the body. It can require you to be on your feet for upwards of eight hours constantly. According to redlandscc.edu, “Regular lifting of medical supplies, medications, patient supplies, and patient charts, all weighing up to ten pounds is required.” Along with lifting up to forty-five pounds of medical supplies, patient equipment, and various types of medications.
To become a nurse, you can take up to three education paths. According to bls.gov, “Registered nurses usually take one of three education paths: a bachelor’s degree in nursing, an associate degree in nursing, or a diploma from an approved nursing program.” The Bachelor of Science (BSN) typically takes around four years. This degree program, Bachelor of Science, is typically needed for additional education in critical thinking, physical, and social sciences. While the associate of science in nursing along with the diploma programs takes two to three years. Generally, licensed graduates of any of the three types of education programs (bachelor’s, associate’s, or diploma) qualify for entry-level positions as staff nurses.
In Mississippi, the entry-level salary is 32k- 76k, which is the equivalent of twenty-one to thirty-six dollars an hour. In 2019, the median pay for a nurse was $73,300 per year and $35.24 per hour. The top twenty-five percent of earners in the nursing field are BSN educated. California has the highest pay rate, with an average annual salary of $106,950. It is also the best-paying state for BSN-trained nurses with an annual average of $125,430. The location of where you work has a large impact on your salary. In summary to become a registered nurse, one must be able to understand and fulfill the job requirements, acquire the needed education, and should be prepared to accept the salary paid in their state. Becoming a registered nurse has been a goal in my life for a while because caring for people is my favorite thing to do. Even if it takes a lot of responsibilities and demands it is worth it for me. While researching in-depth of registered nurse occupation has helped me become more motivated to achieve my goal.
