Green Planet non-profit organization will work to safeguard the earth. It promotes environmental conservation, protects endangered species, wildlife and enforce the necessary solutions to protect our mother earth from pollution and earth’s nature, water, land, and air. Green Planet non-profit organization will be a global organization because the need of the hour is to protect and conserve the whole environment as the environment is not limited to boundaries of a province or a nation. We will join hands to protect wildlife, prevent pollution and protect our natural resources. Types of programs With the dedicated staff, we will partner with many leaders, environmentalists, researchers, businesses, aboriginal people, energy economists, and community groups. The types of programs will be offered as follows:
- Protect forests and wildlife
- Save water and natural resources
- Energy and transportation
- Reducing, reusing and recycling program
- Stop using mercury
- Climate change.
These programs will be offered through both volunteers and paid workforce. Undoubtedly, the success of a non-profit organization largely depends upon the dedication and teamwork of its employees but sometimes retaining the volunteers can become a challenge for the organization.
Strategic Priorities
Strategic planning helps the non-profit organization to get a clear picture of what it is, what it does, and what are the challenges. It also helps us to focus on all the crucial aspects of an organization. Moreover, it also helps us to decide which challenges and problems we must overcome.
- Who are we seeking to serve?
- What services will be provided by the non-profit organization that will save the environment?
- How to educate and inform people about the present condition of our mother earth so that people can participate actively.
- Keeping in mind the ethical and legal aspects, how we can raise funds and set up charities.
- Who will be involved as a facilitator so that he/she can help us with planning, and the most important the place where we can set-up our regular meetings.
Nonprofit organization’s survival
To start a nonprofit organization, we should first see that the nonprofit organization should be charitable under Section 501. One must always keep in mind the two keywords sustainability and capacity. Sustainability defines the level of activity and the resources required to function. We should gather enough unbiased knowledge from reliable sources to answer the first question which always pops up in our mind that whether this nonprofit organization is required or not. How this nonprofit organization will be different from others and what methods we should do to attract the people to join us. Without the proper source of funding, even the best nonprofit organizations cannot succeed. The biggest challenges are the reliable source of information, gathering funds, retaining employees and volunteers, and how to move forward. Furthermore, even technology plays a key role in the journey of a nonprofit organization. Internet, worldwide webs, social networking sites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) are those features of modern society which not only helps us to communicate to our stakeholders but also helps us to raise funds, find employees and volunteers. We can even keep a track of what is going on in the world and we can plan events according to that.
Members of Board
The main role of the board in a nonprofit organization is that they are legally responsible for all the actions taken by the nonprofit organization. The members of the board are the decision makers, advisors, and implementers. The appropriate members of the board for my nonprofit organization will be as follows:
- Executive director
- Vice-chair
- Treasurer
- Lawyer
- Accountant
- Environmentalist
- Professor
- Researcher
- Human rights (Manager)
- Coordinator
- Community activist
- Business leader
- Spiritual leaders.
The different people involved in the nonprofit organization should have enough reliable knowledge so that they can act as stepping stones in the life of an organization. A lawyer should be responsible for all the legal actions taken by the organization. He should be the one who will always be there whenever the big decision is required which can have legal implications. On the other hand, environmentalists, professor, and researchers are the people who have so many years of experiences in their fields. They can explain to the people involved the outcomes of our decision on the environment based on their solid theoretical and practical skills. Human rights manager legally ensures compliance by monitoring, can conduct investigations, maintain records, and represent the organization during hearings. If we are stuck on some human resources policies, the human rights manager can also recommend some alternatives for us. The board of directors will play all the three different roles based on their intellect and experiences. The Executive Director of the nonprofit organization will play the role of decision-maker because ED will be the one who will have more experience and authority over other members. Sometimes the board should trust their employees and volunteers to make decisions which are in favor of the nonprofit organization. The Working board is the decision-making model which I think my board will play. In the decision-making model, everybody is clear about what they will going to do and there will be no confusion if the organization’s environment will change.
Effective board meetings
I will make sure that the board members will attend at least two-thirds of the meetings unless they have a valid reason. Because the absence from board meetings will explain the fact that the members are either not satisfied with the board or with the organization.
I will make sure that the board members will hold a formal meeting once a week so that everybody is clear about the objectives and the things which will be done weekly in order to achieve and accomplish a goal.
Each and every board meeting will not last more than 40-45 minutes. In this length, everybody will be a given a fair chance to explain their ideas and share the information they have gathered.
The meetings should be well organized and the things which require decisions are put on the top of the priority list so that nobody will feel that the meetings are not properly organized or so.
The feedback from the management will also be taken after every board meeting.
