Political Globalization and the European Union
Globalization and Europeanization is a rapidly growing world trend has been in place for the past couple of decades. Some significances of Globalization and Europeanization are international integration and interdependence between countries, multi-dimensional, transformational change with intended and unintended effects and also in the recovery from the transformation depression in all developing and transition countries. This is political globalization essay where the topic of political globalization and europeanization will be discussed.
Political Globalization
Political globalization is the cooperation existing and built between countries and refers to the growth of the worldwide political system. That system includes national governments, and intergovernmental organizations such as UN, NATO, EU, ASEAN, etc. This system also includes government-independent elements and International nongovernmental organizations like Greenpeace, and OXFAM. Political Globalization also establish the growing power of institutions of global governance such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). One of the perks for nations to be a part of this systems is their inclusions in decision making process and interactions with other countries within the United Nations. This is also showing an increasing trend toward multilateralism and toward the emergence of national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Unions such as the United Nations has also significantly grown since its beginning at the Cold War. The United nations was the successor of the League of Nations and was created so it won’t make the same mistakes as its predecessor. Some of the goals set out by the United Nations is to protect nations from countries and organizations that can be viewed as a threat to political independence, maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations and respect among countries, achieving international cooperation for all members, working together side by side as a harmonizer among the nations and ensuring the security of countries while still maintaining the ideology of basic human rights. Today the UN continues to act as a Union that keeps peace over the world and while receiving support from all of its member states.
Globalization is also especially important and carries a lot of benefits for developing countries and nations in transitional phase. Development of institutions and infrastructure in developing nations is significant in the progressions of these countries and this can be done through trade, foreign investments and partnerships. One of the services the United Nations and many Non-governmental organizations offer is foreign aid that can immensely benefits developing countries in terms of issues in improving education, health care system, sanitation and hunger rates amongst its citizens. Another way globalization is helping and connecting less developed nations to the rest of the world is by outsourcing jobs to developing countries which can possibly lead to helping lower their unemployment rates.
Europeanization
In terms of Europeanization the most important concepts that political Europeanisation cover are its interactions between the European Union as a whole and all of its member states. This concept will also include both social and cultural processes of integration of Europeanization into being a part of the union for each and every member and potential member nations specifically to them. And as a result of this process Europeanization differs from country to country. Interaction between the European Union as a whole and its member states is a key incentive in Europeanization and pursuing EU member status for many European countries in transitions. Being able to be a part of the decision-making processes in the European Union is highly beneficial for European countries as their voices can be heard by all the other member states since all decisions are made by consensus between all members.
As well as decision making, the role of transitioning nations and members can also level policy making in the European Union in their favor to be able to enhance institutional developments and infrastructures in their transitional political and economic state. Another benefit of joining the European Union is that it can also mean a step towards modernizing countries which can be seen by the examples of countries such as Turkey and Hungary. Europeanization can also establish international security for nations in transition and universal recognition from not only the European Union but also other various organizations such as the World Trade Organization, International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, etc. as being recognized by these organization holds its own benefits and values. Furthermore, being a part of the European Union allows transition countries and all of its other member states legal protection of human rights for all of their citizens in the case of any danger of misdemeanor and exploitation of basic human rights of any individual or parties. This also includes environmental awareness which protect any danger or harm cause to the environment and/or the people living within those environments and surrounding areas.
Conclusion
In conclusion, political globalization has many dimensions and has a number of different interpretations. Political globalization can also very well be seen in many changes like the democratization of the world, it can also be seen as the creation of the global civil society and lastly it can be seen as moving beyond the centrality of the national states, especially as the only actor in the unit of politics. The creation and existence of the United Nations has been claimed as one of the many examples of political globalization. And another example of political globalization is shown by political actions of the Non-Governmental Organizations and various social and people movements, concerned about issues ranging from environmental protection to human rights.
