Evaluation Of How Good Is Our Early Learning And Childcare (HGIOELC) Education Framework
How Good Is Our Early Learning and Childcare is a framework which is aimed for practitioners who work with children 0-5 years of age.
This framework helps practitioners to promote learning and development of children to create skills for life. It allows the practitioners to self- evaluate to understand what outcomes are in practice and what improvements can be made. HGIOELC highlights importance of working together with a child’s family and different agencies to achieve high standards and to ensure wellbeing, equality and inclusion to everyone. As the name of this framework suggests, it provide practitioners opportunity to reflect on their work to make the practice the best practice to every child. According to my understanding and what I have seen in my placement, this framework is fully serving its purpose, which is to achieve the high standards. It has an easy to read and understand format. It is very important for practitioners to reflect on their work and this framework provides them guidelines to do so.
Implementing a Human rights approach in a setting ensures that people are placed in the centre of any policy. PANEL principles are one way of making sure that this approach is in practice. It means Participating people in making decision which are related to them. A method of Accountability is in practice to keep a check on things and if things do go wrong what actions can be taken to fix things. Practice should implement a Non-Discrimination approach, which means everyone should be treated fairly regardless of their gender, religion, background. Empowering the understanding and implementation of Human Rights. An Approach that is grounded in the Legal Rights that are set in the law.
In my placement setting they have implemented the human rights approach by allowing children choose any activity they would like to do. As a basic human right of freedom, every morning all the activities are laid out in the room and outdoor gear is set next to the door. After the attendance children are allowed to decide whether they would like to play inside or outdoor and within inside they can choose any activity. This practice not only gives children freedom of choice but it also gives them confidence. They have more interest in doing that activity and have better chances of learning through that activity. Children who are joining the setting are offered a home visit by their key worker and a member of the management. Home visit give them an opportunity to meet their key worker and to make a bond with them before even the start the nursery. This means when they do come to the nursery they will have a familiar face working with them, which will make them to feel secure and happy.
