Expectations And Reality Of Us Immigration System
Imagine being at home, work, or school, and get a missed call from one of your parents. You immediately think it must be something important since they called you during your workdays, so you call them back. Only to find that they are being sent far away from you. On April 24, 2019, my father was deported. March 16, 2019 I notice a missed call from my dad, which was unusual because he usually does not call when I am at work. I also knew that my father was at work too. I immediately called back, and a man with a gruff voice answers, 'Hi, this is officer [insert name]' at that instant, my heart raced because I knew something was wrong. I identified myself to the officer, to which he explained to me that my father is at the Gwinnett Jail for driving without a license. I felt helpless at that moment, so I called my sister, and with a fragile voice, she said to me, 'I am at the Gwinnett jail, and there is nothing we can do. Immigration already processed him. '
The term immigration has dramatically divided this country. Immigration has been a hot topic that is heavily influenced by political candidates every election term. It was not until recently, where some politicians made dehumanizing allegations — portraying immigrants as being invaders, rapists, and criminals. The expectations that politicians have made publicly on immigrants linger on many Americans today, and their feelings towards immigrants. Where now more than ever, there has been a lot of hate, to which have led to extreme violence towards immigrants.
The reality is that many people do not understand the reasons for people migrating to the United States. It is not to steal jobs, commit crimes, or live off other people's tax money. Therefore, understanding why people migrate to the United States is an essential guiding line for regulating rules and concepts on immigrants. Demonstrating the reality immigrants face every day when living in the shadows of the United States. Hate crimes has caused many immigrants to live in fear, in the United States because of the opinions made by a person's hatred and prejudice towards immigrants.
The reality is that many immigrants yearn to become an American by coming into the United States legally, but the U. S. immigration system has been broken for many years now. Many wait years to have their application processed. Once the application is processed, multiple steps are required, and fees to pay. The system makes it difficult for people to go through, and it has caused many families to live in fear because they do not know how to. The truth is, many people that desire to come to the United States are seeking asylum because of the terrible conditions in their country.
According to the center's estimate, in 2007, the number of unauthorized Mexican immigrants declined, and even since then has continued to decline in recent years, while the total from other countries increased. For example, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala are countries that rank the world's most violent countries. In recent years, drought and crop failure caused food insecurity, which led many families to abandon their homeland, aside from the lack of economic opportunity. Recent accusations were said that migrants were invading the border and suggested them to come in the right way, and to 'wait their turn. '
The reality is that America's immigration system is incredibly complicated for migrants seeking asylum because the system is for newcomers who fall into a particular category. Seeking asylum is a legal process that takes place once in U. S. soil. Urging migrants to apply for visas before showing up in the port of entry is almost impossible for many Central Americans.
