Fit 2 Fight: My Business Idea And Plan Of Its Implementation

Introduction

The idea of starting a business never really crossed my mind. It wasn’t until the thought of me retiring from the military that I began to think about what I would do after. I thought to myself, “What I could do that wouldn’t be stressful for me while making a living and doing something productive?” That’s when the idea of Fit 2 Fight came to me. I would use mixed martial arts techniques to develop an intensive workout routine that instills discipline, respect and teamwork. By building a business that is modeled around respecting one another, I could make a positive impact to youth in my community and help to develop model citizens. If I could build a business doing something that I loved, I would never have to work another day in my life. There comes a time when everyone comes to self-realization and they must decide. Do what it takes to see your vision become a reality or sit on the sidelines and watch someone else do it. That’s what drives me and motivates me to act, I want to make a real difference while still make a living to support my family and have honor doing it. In this paper I will outline my vision on becoming a business owner that makes a positive impact on my community.

Vision Statement

“To develop model citizens to guide our youth to build a better world for tomorrow”. In order to make the world a better place, we must instill respect, discipline and teamwork into our young generation. Only then can we make a real difference. A child’s mind is molded by their surroundings. Children mimic what they see. Why not be the best example we can be to produce a better future for the world, instead of making mediocracy acceptable. In order to change the world, we must be willing to change ourselves and get out of our comfort zone. Strive to be the best person you can be to set the pace for the future. The company will become a cornerstone of the community by promoting good health and support the positive development of the community’s future.

Mission Statement

Achieve personal growth by promoting health, communication, training, leadership, and collaboration. The ultimate goal is to develop formidable character, strength and resilience in individuals to withstand life’s obstacles. Have an open mind, clear conscious and good intentions to build character and wisdom. Be open to learn from one another and help us succeed together as a team.

My mission statement is a bit generalized but has a specific goal. Through exercise and teaching people to defend themselves as a last resort will give them the tools and confidence needed to face their fears. The biggest regrets are the opportunities not taken, my program teaches to face challenges in order to realize the outcomes. Sometimes the outcome weighs heavy on the individual, but through team support systems they can be a light burden instead of a heavy impact on youth. Experiences like these can help develop resiliency and determination to succeed. My program will offer low income youth, reduced pricing for the program and offer veterans and public service employees as well as dependents of military personnel discounted rates to show appreciation of their public service.

Team Values

  • Respect the institution and embrace our team values
  • Uncompromising commitment to our team, organization and ourselves
  • Empower each other by growing personally and professionally
  • Understanding what is important to each team member
  • Building an effective and efficient team-based environment

  • Give 100% effort all the time.

Company Organization

Owner/CEO is the highest position in the company. The owner directs the vision and direction the company is to follow. It is up to management to take their marching orders and realize the vision of the owner /CEO. The owner also engages community leaders to sponsor and promote healthy living and youth development in the community. Owner/ CEO will conduct weekly training meetings to identify any problems and solutions for the company to add to their tasks list. General manger conducts day to day operations at the managerial level. They conduct daily meetings with team leaders and assist in the hiring process. Secondary duties consist of human resource obligations and community outreach program developments. General manager gives daily briefs and weekly progress reports on the company to the owner.

Team leaders develop a healthy training regimen and environment for members. They establish training routines catered to the individual member based on their needs. Team leaders schedule mixed martial arts and boxing lessons and also schedule private high intensity workouts. Team leaders will be professional and courteous at all times. Team leaders are responsible for creating a physical fitness program that promotes discipline and respect in every class. Team members will have no more than 8 students in order to create intimate learning experiences in each group. Team leader will report any shortcomings or needs to the general manager. Supply manager will conduct weekly inventories of gym equipment and individual equipment. Maintenance personnel will also be in charge of conducting routine inspections of all emergency equipment and proper clearance of emergency egression areas. Maintenance will also be included in weekly training meeting in order to identify and rectify any shortcomings in the maintenance department.

Company Strategy

Our company strategy will begin with the needs of the members of the community. The needs of the community if addressed with time and care can reciprocate into better business with the company for the involvement of the solution. To assist families with positive role models and influences in their own community, children can have a long-time effect on their individual character in turn becoming model citizens and strive to do better for themselves and for the next generation. Promote health and wellness as well as good discipline and moral fiber to the youth in the community in order to be a contributor to the community and become a model citizen.

Planning

Something like planning for a business can come with a lot of headaches, first is the financial aspect of the whole thing. How do you come up with the money for such a risky business that relies on an idea of how people want to be? The answer is easy, invest in yourself. The VA offers low interest small business loans and many banks offer great deals on small business loans that cater to veterans. Having a fixed income can be beneficial because you know exactly what you can afford and what you can invest in. Planning is not so much coming up with the details but coming up with the end state and doing some backwards planning in order to get you there.

Coordination

In order to coordinate a successful business, you must have dependable people managing your business. Hiring people that exemplify your main goal and have the same passion for impacting the community can make the difference in coordinating good help in order to meet the desired end state. In order to meet what I am trying to accomplish in my business I must develop good professional relationships that will be beneficial for all parties involved. Creating a brand that speaks to the masses a generates attention from big media outlets can have a great influence on the success of my idea for the community. Overall, my business is intended to inspire people to be better. Having motivational speakers and guest teachers would be one of my ultimate goals. I would want to do this monthly and eventually make such an impact that scouting would be as simple as choosing people eager to volunteer. I could see people like Chuck Norris or Tito Ortiz volunteering to help out because of their long-time dedication to helping under privileged youth and supporting the military community.

Controlling

The final step in creating your business is figuring out how to apply control methods in order to make the business profitable and to make sense. It starts with the employees and management. The employees drive the organization and if you want the organization to do well, the employees must share the same vision. Sometimes it takes some doing. Creating a new business comes with its challenges like motivating those that have no clue what your vision is or simply hiring good followers and potential leaders to get you to where you want to be. As an owner one of my responsibilities would be to create a student centric environment where we could learn from each other to develop a successful business model to impact the community in a positive way and generate a business that becomes a daily way of life to become a desire in the community as opposed to a hobby or a pastime. Quality control; methods would include feedback from members of what expectations are from our program and what they would like to see as a result from our programs. An additional duty to management would be to find new ways to promote our ideology to daily life and monitor it by creating incentives for those living the values of our organization. In addition, I would try to create a supportive environment by providing insight and sharing experiences. I would do my best to build relationships with each other, take time out to know one another and the issues and tasks we face as an organization, learn from each other’s strengths and leverage those strengths for the betterment of the team. We must also be entrepreneurial and find the proper synergy between effectiveness- providing what the customer needs and efficiency- doing our duties in the most resource effective manner to keep costs low and prevent any burden to the customer. In developing and implementing strategic objectives, we must remain mindful of our societal responsibilities and support of the local community. As an organization that wants to do well, we seek to contribute to environmental, societal and economic systems that actively strengthen the community and population around us. With that said one of my additional goals as a business is to create revenue that contribute to the employment of qualified individuals that share a vision for self-empowerment and to better the community around us.

Conclusion

The basis for my business is to mentor those that need guidance. There are many people that need guidance now in days due to their poor economic status, or lack of a positive role model or structure. I plan to change that one class at a time. If not, I can offer a place to come blow off steam for a low price and promote health and positive thinking. My intention is to create an environment where people feel safe, they can get a good workout while learning self-defense in a structured environment that can influence daily behavior. Getting troubled youth off the streets is a passion of mine that I hope to fully indulge in as soon as I retire from the military. Creating a safe haven for those in need or those that want to become better people is a satisfaction that is close to indescribable. I plan to open my fitness center/youth center in 2025. I also plan to integrate other community organizations to my business to provide additional information on services that might be needed.

To conclude my business idea, I hope that by reading this I also inspire others to do for others instead of simply doing for yourselves. So many people need help that it’s only right to do so if you’re capable. The best contribution one can make is time, because that is the most impactful way to affect a person in search of themselves.
