General Attributes And Communication Skills Of A Good Employee
General attributes
- Numeracy Skills
- Time management
- Determination
- Independence
Having a good degree of mathematical skills is valued by employers. You will come across calculations and it is important that your calculations must be accurate or you may have to analyse data where your numeracy skills will be tested. So employers need to know the person they are recruiting has a knowledge of all subjects including maths.
You should be able to manage your time effectively in order to do well at your workplace. This includes things such as getting to work on time completing tasks within the set time.
Being determined to work at the best of your ability is what the employers look for which is also much valued by them employers want the best employees working at their organisation and the people who are determined are tend to work really hard while they are at work which is appreciated and valued by the employer as they wouldn't want to hire people who have the knowledge but only there to make money.
People who can work on their own are great for the company as they do not need help and assistance all the time. If the employee cannot show initiative and always needs help there is no point in them working for the company because they need total attention.
General communication skills
Modulation has several meanings, including a change of key in music or of the sound of a person's voice. If someone has less deep or squeaky voice they sound young and innocent however some with a deeper slow voice they tend to sound rough and mean by modulating your voice you can give sound that someone can feel is profesional not speaking loudly and clearly.
When communicating you must use the correct terminology which is the words linked to the specific subject or topic of the conversation for example when talking about computing using words such ‘CPU’ and ‘Operating System’ would be the correct terminology.
Interpersonal skills
When communicating you could be saying one thing but your body language could be saying another. Body language includes facial expressions, the way you stand and the placement of your h. It is essential when you are speaking you give off a positive attitude through your posture. For example if your in an interview and you are speaking well your body language could let you down if you are seated relaxed with your arms folded your body language is showing that you have a bad attitude, you are relaxed or you have the wrong mindset. Negative language shouldn’t be used when conversing, when speaking professionally you must always use positive language swearing will present you as rough and you must always or not serious. People who curse a lot tend to come from rough backgrounds with loads of troubles maybe even abuse. So using positive language shows you are a good character. The use of negative language such as ‘I cannot’ when talking about a task could mean that you aren't overall a positive person. Moreover using phrases like ‘to be honest’ may show the interviewer you aren't entirely an honest person.
Communication in writing skills
Grammar and spelling are key written communication. They help the reader form an opinion on you. If you make grammatical or spelling mistakes it is best to go over them before sending an email or written letter because these mistakes will make the reader think you are not smart or serious. Furthermore, when writing a serious email it better to not use emoticons as they indicate a childish, immature and flippant character.
