Harriet Tubman: The Road To Freedom
Harriet Tubman was a black slave that went through alot in her life. She is a very important person in black history month. Harriet Tubman is one of the most remembered African Americans of all time. She rescued over three hundred slaves and claims to lose none of them, using the Underground Railroad and she is also recognized for her Civil War service as a spy (https://worldhistoryproject.org/topics/harriet-tubman). Harriet Tubman had a great effect on many Black African Americans with all the risks she took to save so many in need. She was a hero to many black slaves, her effect on the world was big and she plays an important part of Black History month (Ann McGovern pg 17-20).In 1820, Harriet Tubman was born and her birth name was Araminta Ross, she was born into a family of slaves in Maryland (http://www.harriet-tubman.org/early-life/). Several of her siblings were kidnapped and sold to other owners and she never saw them again but she stayed very strong (http://www.harriet-tubman.org/early-life/).
At the age of 5 she started working as a slave for James Cook and her first job was taking care of children and at 12 her job was checking the muskrat traps. Harriet spent countless hours laboring for others. Along with doing manual work for her owners, she had to put up with many beatings like the one that split her head open and gave her narcolepsy which is a disorder that affects your sleep and wakefulness (https://prezi.com/udautpoa0ydu/harriet-tubman/ ). Even though she went through all this trauma in her life she still did great things in her lifetime and died at 93 in 1913 and for all her great actions in her life, she became one of the greatest heros in her life (http://www.math.buffalo.edu/~sww/0history/hwny-tubman.html). Her impact on the world was very big because of all the great things she did during her lifetime. One of the things that she did was saving so many slaves by using the underground railroads with john brown (https://worldhistoryproject.org/topics/harriet-tubman). She also helped with the Civil War as a spy and gave a lot of information to the American soldiers during the war and she cooked all there meals. Harriet Tubman also was a nurse to the American soldiers. Harriet Tubman was an African American abolitionist which is someone that wants slavery gone and not happening anymore (https://worldhistoryproject.org/topics/harriet-tubman). Frederick Douglass worked with her to help slaves and they both doubted John Brown's plan to get rid of slavery with violence(Harriet Tubman Civil Rights Leader ). She escaped in 1849 and then became a famous conductor on the Underground Railroad in 1850 (Harriet Tubman).
We celebrate Harriet Tubman during black history because she was a heroismo to many black slaves in the 1850 as a conductor and we thank her for all her hard work that could have taken her life but she did it anyway (Harriet Tubman). We should all remember all the great things that she has done and never forget her. Some other achievements that she has done are making it illegal to have slaves working forcefully (Harriet Tubman). We celebrate black history month because we did very bad things to black African Americans like make them slaves and we forced them to do things that we wanted them to do. Black history month started in 1926 which is 61 years after slavery was abolished. Black history month is how we learn about all are mistakes that we made in the past (All about black history month).
