Harriet Tubman: The Road to Freedom, written by Catherine Clinton shows about most courageous women who fought for her freedom and freedom of others. Freedom from slavery was one of the big issue America has faced. American civil war was a fight in United States from 1861-1865, between the North and the South. There were many who fought of the freedom of the slaves. Freedom a word commonly used to describe as the power to do anything that way a person wants. Harriet Tubman stands as an example for freedom from slavery. Slavery, where people were being sold out and away from their families. It became very important for people like Tubman to find and fight for their freedom.

Tubman was born into Slavery in Maryland and was in a pursuit of finding freedom. Even though no one is sure when exactly she is born, it is concluded that she is born around 1822. She faced many hardships as she was growing up. Her father was separated from the family, her siblings were sold into slavery. She was later separated from her mother. Even though there were many separations, she still managed to spend time with her family. She faced many physical violence on a daily basis as she was trying to work as her masters had required her to. She has suffered a traumatic injury that almost killed her. Tubman had suffered from epilepsy for the rest of her life. She faced more persecution as she was fighting for her freedom and running away from the slave owners without their permission.

Tubman dedicated her life to compassion and equality, from freeing enslaved people to advocating for women’s suffrage to caring for the elderly. She left everything she knew and had in search for freedom in 1849. Traveling north and becoming a famous conductor and making her way back to south after a year and half and slowly freeing the slaves using the means of railroad. Between 10 years, she had made 19 trips from the south to north, and the railroad network was called the underground railroad. Even though she had hardships through her escape, as her masters had sent out a wanted poster for her. Her escape was also made difficult. She didn’t give up and continued to fight for her and others freedom. She did everything she needed to achieve it even if that meant she was alone in the journey. She had risked her life as she was trying to fight for the freedom of her people. She was a lead to the abolishment movement as she was helping slaves from the south escape their way to freedom slowly. This movement was done before the American civil war. Tubman had worked as a cook, nurse, and helped the union army by bring a spy during the American civil war. She has been a lead and had helped many slaves find their freedom.

Harriet Tubman’s life not only inspired people at that time period but also have inspired all the generations to come. The message of her life was to pursue happiness and don’t ever let circumstances stop you from fulfilling your dreams. She showed persistence and patience as it took her years to complete her mission to free people from slavery. Her life is an example for what it means to not give up no matter what happens. She was a strong woman who did everything to help the nation out. She was selfless, loving and very helpful person. She knew that being in bond of people is not how life is meant to be lived and she fought for her rights. She gave an example to other women not to be afraid and fight for their rights. She showed that there is nothing a woman cannot do. She showed power in wanting to achieving dreams. Her hard work had paid off at the end. She showed bravery even when others around her were not able to. She was determined, to free the slaves and bring justice. She went above and beyond her power and all that she could to make sure that the people who were relining on her were not disappointment. Harriet Tubman has taught many people on basic things in life such as persistence, patience, hard work, brave etc. She has left a legacy to which people should follow. There are many attributions that has left everyone wondering on how much a person can achieve in their life. Harriet Tubman shows through her life that if a person puts their mind to it, they can achieve anything.
