Healthy Habits Topic: Junk Food

Who does not like to eat outside McDonald’s, Burger king or other fast food restaurants. Cheaper food /Health problem (obesity) /create bad eating habits. First, let’s talk about Fast food.

We spend more money on food than other miscellaneous. Fast food away from home compared to 48% in 2009. African American households spend 39% of their total food budget away from home. 3 Foods consumed away from home are typically more calorically dense and higher in fat and have been associated with increased body mass index and weight gain. As a percentage of total food spending, money spent away outside the home was twenty-five percent in 1970, forty percent in 1995, forty-seven and a half percent in 1999, and estimated to reach fifty-three percent in 2010”.

We're been programmed to seek sweet and salty foods, and fast food knows how to pander to those cravings. “This hidden hand may be overriding individuals’ will because increasing evidence shows that junk food may be addictive. Palatable foods activate brain reward circuitry in a similar fashion to many addictive drugs, and soaring obesity rates may be correlated to the increased availability of and exposure to highly reinforcing comfort foods. ”

We spend more money eating outside than on groceries that contain the health nutrients we need and that is a bad habit that we have to change. We are going to talk about it in solution. 3. The rising prevalence of obesity has been associated with increased accessibility to “junk foods high in fat, sugar, and other carbohydrates, and the consumption of these diets is especially prominent during adolescence”. “In the United States, more than 13 % of the population has three or more chronic diseases, and chronic diseases account for approximately seven out of ten deaths in Americans each year. Obesity is a well-established risk factor for heart disease, diabetes, stroke, several cancers, and other chronic diseases. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, obesity is estimated to cause 14 % of cancer deaths in men and 20 % of cancer deaths in women”.

The thinking and researching on eating, physical activity, sedentary behaviors, and obesity have been guided until recently by biological and psychological models and theories focusing on individuals, families, and small social groups such as friends and coworkers. The habit of eating fast food can lead to obesity, heart disease, cholesterol, acne, short breach and high blood pressure. In the next generations obesity can be a normalized and we do not want that to happen to our children so it is better for us to change our self for those kids to be better than us. Now that we’ve discussed chipper dollar food and health Problem, let’s discuss change the bad habit to a good one.

One of the best solutions to change our habit it to start to cook easy receipt like salad, omelet ex…. “With the current high levels of obesity and evidence which indicates that simply supplying healthy eating information cannot facilitate significant behaviour change, new methods of changing eating patterns need to be explored. It is considered particularly important to engage with parents of young children, since they have responsibility for establishing the eating habits of the next generation”.
