I Have A Dream By Martin Luther King – One Of The Most Convincing Speeches

Martin Luther King Jr. was an amazing man that had a purpose to change the perspective of those that discriminate colored people. Negros did not have justice, they were not equal to the whites, Negros were segregated, his overall goal was to promote pure equality and happiness. On August 8, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the well known speech, “I Have a Dream” in Washington D. C. Throughout the speech, he discusses the need for equality while including things such as logos, ethos, the audience he is addressing, and pathos.

Many wise words were used in his famous speech, but a certain statement in particular was very logical. It said, “Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood; now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children. ' King said this to emphasize how much he wants things to change for the better, he wants everyone to live a happy life full of equality. To lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice is a very powerful thing to say, it was brilliant to include such a bold statement. It was brilliant because it showed how stuck everyone was, we must stand together otherwise we will sink into the quicksand of racial injustice.

When giving speeches or simply talking to another person, it is important to talk with emotion. Martin Luther King Jr. was great at that, he had no trouble expressing his feelings. Speaking seemed so easy to him, the way he spoke was as if he was talking to a friend of his. Everything he said flowed off his tongue perfectly, he knew just what to say and how to say it. Mr. King was very passionate about his beliefs and rights. He said something that was amazing, “In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. ” This quote really says something about who he was as a person. It was very strong of him to say this because he was letting others know that they should not do what others did to them. They should not give in or wish harm upon others or treat others the way they were once treated.

Martin Luther King Jr. had gone through so much. For example, not being able to go into the same places as the whites, not being able to talk to them, and not being able to do have the same things as them. In many ways he and other people have felt this pain, so it is something he is able to talk about. It must have been hard to gain the trust of the audience, but speaking and standing up for their rights was something that he felt needed to be done whether they respected him or not. Throughout the speech, Mr. King repeated a lot of things. For example, he says, “I have a dream” “Now is the time” “Let freedom ring” etc. Martin said those phrases many times to highlight what he was saying, he not only wanted people to hear him, he wanted people to believe him. The famous speech was specifically intended to open the eyes of those who discriminate others. This topic is very controversial, not everyone wanted the same thing Martin Luther King did. Mr. King spoke from his heart and said what he felt was true. He did not care if the people listening had prior knowledge about the topic, he just wanted to get his point across to everyone. It is something he feels the need to address. He wanted to address those that discriminate and how it affects the victims.

This speech is one that is always going to remembered. Martin Luther King Jr. changed lives because of what he did, he convinced many people to follow him and do the right thing by not discriminating. Today in society we are equal, it is an amazing feeling. Today we are now able to use the same restrooms, drink from the same water fountains, talk to different people from different backgrounds all because an intelligent man named Martin Luther King Jr. decided to change everyone’s lives by speaking on August 28, 1963.
