Abstract
Public spaces play a very significant role in improving the social life of a community, they have a role both physically and functionally in urban planning and development there will be an increase with the identity of community when social interaction takes place in the public spaces. The identity of the space has been associated with improved wellbeing, increased feelings of safety and security, participation in community affairs and civic responsibility. The physical elements and activities at the public open space offer many benefits for quality of life such as health, safety, social interaction and also the economic value. A good public space should be sociable, accessible, with proper addition of utilization of space. Malpe Beach in Karnataka is one of the important beaches in India. The beach is surrounded with three rocky islands a never-ending coastline, with islands surrounded in the western side.
The paper aims in developing interactive public spaces for better utilization in Kola Region as a tourist. The study focuses on the attributes of public spaces which could be the most relevant to the Kola area, with increase in Malpe’s tourism activities forming the major influences on Kola region. Need for the StudyKola region is the area situated near to Malpe beach which is an important tourist destination. With increasing tourism activities in Malpe there is possibility of Kola region to be developed for tourism in future. This will prove a significant change to the Kola region in terms of its space quality. The study undertaken in the Kola region can be beneficial for making it a successful public space. The study attempts to identify the attributes of good public spaces which can be used to develop kola region.

Scope of the study
Malpe Beach in Karnataka is one of the unexplored beaches in India. The beach has a never-ending coastline, which is surrounded by three rocky islands on the western side. The Malpe Beach and the Kola beach has a pleasant weather and clean white sand which makes it an ideal for a varieties of water sports activities.
The scope is limited to the study of Kola region to improve the quality of space. The study focuses on the attributes of public spaces which could be the most relevant to the chosen area. Increase in Malpe’s tourism activities form the major source of information which has been referred for understanding the possible influences on Kola region. Reports on increased facilities for tourism in Malpe is a significant factor which makes a difference on the Kola region. Literature studies are based on research papers, journals and articles. Observational studies combined with image surveys are the primary data on which the study has been based.
Kola has been selected as the case study area, since it is public space and reflects the characteristics of an rapid developing tourism sector and also an important public space for the surrounding. Comfort, quality and aesthetic considerations have been identified as key variables for measuring the utilization of public spaces which are not identified in this region. Through a image the survey, accessibility and utilization of public spaces in the study area have been assessed. Through this survey, the aim is to check the state of accessibility and utilization of public spaces in a area. The survey has been prepared in the light of awareness about the importance of user preferences in terms of access and utilization, since it would convey to an understanding of necessary changes in public spaces, declining physical attributes and functional attitudes towards existing spaces.
The appearance of the public space affects its users, and in many cases can be substantially improved. For the purpose of this paper, comfort, quality and aesthetic considerations have been identified as key variables for measuring the utilization of public spacses. Comfort -Comfortable space has a good image and used efficiently which can be measured through safety through determining the level of safety in public spaces and which are the factors affecting safety. Quality-Variety of activities and facilities in public spaces are the main building blocks of successful spaces which can be measured with measurement and cleanliness which determines the types of existing activities or facilities in public spaces. Variation in activities and facilities Aesthetic consideration Physical attractiveness and maintenance is among the most important factors of successful place making which is measured through appearance determining the maintainance levels and physical appearance through survey, observational data.
