Importance Of Interacting Within A Community To Minimize Dumping

People who live in a city or town are expected to maintain a balance by participating or volunteering in community projects. For example, Homestead, Florida has not made the conscious decision to do so. The lack of effort that the community has put in the city shows. Littering has been one of the largest issues, people do not pay mind to the detrimental effects that littering has on a community. According to the author of “Illegal Dumping”, “Dumping things like…hazardous materials not only harm the environment…but results in millions of dollars spent on…cleanup costs. ” Instead of taking what little time it takes to throw away waste, recycle paper, plastics, and other recyclables people will throw them on the ground. This interrupts the habitat of the surrounding animals and litterers can pay a fine of “up to $1, 000, vehicle seizure and arrest. ” This shows that our community does not care enough as a whole to care for their hometown or even their own consequential actions.

People who live in Homestead do not realize the importance of interacting within a community. Riché C. Zamor states that, “A community is a…thread used to bring people together…in the fight to overcome certain threats”. Zamor talks about how a community is used to be able to work together to fight obstacles. These obstacles being things as large as pollution or as miniscule as weekly townhall meetings. Being so close to the ocean you would think that a number of people would want to act on matters like pollution by the beach. However, organizations do not even have the funding to hire people, let alone gather people for a beach cleanup; here we have prisoners do the work for the community. Also, something as simple as a townhall meeting would be a no brainer for most people living in cities other than homestead, but few actually show up, a sparse ten or twenty people.

There is so simple answer I can give you to solve this issue, but I assure you that once you give people a crisis, they will respond. Maybe the community will even grow stronger because of it. A large flooding of Homestead would dissolve all the problems at hand. If you think about it, all the waste on the floor and beaches would spread to the middle of the roads, driveways in front of homes, and even parking lots. People in the community would then partake in working together. Trash blocking your way to work would be the only incentive anyone has thought about to get citizens involved. A large flooding would certainly result in deaths of the mass, not to worry, this will only promote folk to care more about the community. Citizens will definitely attend townhall meetings after loved ones have passed. Adamson stated that, “volunteers came to help, while donations flooded in. ” Adamson wrote this after a huge flooding happened which is proof that even people who did not take part in the community came together to help out. A flooding over Homestead would be the only reasonable option for people not taking part in the community.
