Stress-Free Living: Practical Tips and Strategies

To start with, this is expository essay about maintaining a stress free life essay. Here will be discussed how stress affect the health of stomach and what action can be done as a prevention/solution. 

What is Stress?

There are many definitions on what anxiety/stress is, but overall it refers to the feelings of worry, unease and nervousness about things that we don’t necessarily have the ability to change or control. General symptoms of stress on the human body include headaches, muscle pains, difficulty sleeping, sweaty palms, elevated blood pressure, stomach cramps and chest pains, hair loss, acne outbreak and so much more. Stress doesn’t only affect you physically, it also affects you emotionally. Stress can make people depressed, experience Bipolar disorder and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Many people who suffer from anxiety have panic attacks and suffer from specific phobias. The most common causes of stress in teenagers are peer pressure, overwhelmed with school work, family problems and bullies. All teenagers are different and may get overwhelmed by different things, however, all teenagers experience the same/similar side effects from stress.

The Stomach 

Many systems in the human body can be physically affected from stress. But from personal experience, I know how badly it can affect the stomach. Stress can cause a range of gastric problems, including stomach cramps, bloating, inflammation, and a loss of appetite. Stomach cramps can vary in intensity, depending on the individual person. Some people will only experience pain when having an anxiety attack and when something very stressful happens, others will experience less severe pain but for a longer period and not necessarily at a stressful time in their lives but from having already been stressed a while back. When feeling stressed, stomach acids build up and can cause indigestion and stomach alcers. Food will also not sit properly, and you can experience feelings of nausea (and possibly vomiting or retching), constipation and diarrhoea.

Solution 

Within expository essay about maintaining a stress free life I want to mention a book written by Jennifer Peacock-Smith, she gives many tips on how to cope with stress and how to calm yourself down during an attack. One of them being what she calls the “Rib Cage Theory” where you put your hand on your rib cage and take deep breaths, but without letting your hand move. This helps you take deep breaths from the stomach and not shallow breaths from your chest. You should imagine that there is a balloon in your stomach, and you need to inflate it as much as you can before breathing out again. Other solutions would be to talk to somebody about what it is going on and get their advice. Some things cannot be controlled by us, but we need to be prepared for the things that we can control and not leave things for the last minute. It is also good to get the right amount of sleep a day, eat the correct foods and exercise regularly in order to keep our bodies healthy. Keeping a routine is also vital in maintaining a stress-free life.

My Opinion and Conclusion 

To conclude maintaining a stress free life expository essay, I think that teenagers these days are under more stress that ever before. I think that the main cause of stress would be the work overload at school. In fact, it is believed that homework was created as a form of punishment for naughty children long ago. And it has been proven that children who do not get homework do better at school than children who do get homework. I think that the school hours should be made a little but longer and that our lessons should be longer so that we can do all the work in class and be able to go home without carrying heavy bags filled with homework that damage our backs and we will be able to have a normal childhood- playing outside, reading books and expanding our knowledge on life skills that we can only learn from doing, and can only do if we don’t have to stay up late each night doing homework.
