Mixed-Race Families Common In Canada But Still Face Challenges
Canada is known for being a contry that accepts people from different origins and race and religion. There is no doubt that multiculturalism will always remain as an important identity of Canada. The government aims at enhancing the multi culturalism in Canada. This act ensures that all culutral groups have equal rights and respect in the country. Canada is always welcoming to new immigrants and encouraging cultural diversity. Having people from different cultures helps us understand about various ethinicties from around the world.
Multi culturalism is a sign of a society which is tolerant and accepting towards many cultures, ethnic origins, values and beliefs. Sometimes a few people judge a certain race or ethnic group and have disrespect for them. The beauty of multiculturalism in Canada is that, it teaches us to accept every individual for ho they are. Preserving one’s own cultures is an individual right and it is important for us to remember that. It is not right to judge a person just beacsue they belong to a certain background/origin or have certain qualities. The society has stereotyped us into thinking like that about certain communities. We as adults need to think before we speak wrong. The words we speak carry a lot meaning than we imagine. They not only represent us, but contribute to our society as a whole. Families in Canada have changed a lot over the past few years and I feel it is good sign.
The cultural diversity that Canada has is spectacular and this creates a diversity thoughts. Not everybody is accepting and open to the idea of multiculturasim. This leads to a lot of debates in law and public policies. A few of them want to know what kinds of families should be recognized and supported.
Different people have different perspectives, viewpoints, and backgrounds which means that these people have different insights. A person’s past experiences or their upbrigning is how they usually think. The relationship we share with our family are among the most significant relationships we have. We don’t get to choose who our parents are. It is absolutely perfect to be born in an inter racial family. It Is not right for some people in the society to look down upon them or disrespect them. Love is love and the society who looks down upon those as mentioned in the article needs to understand it better. It upsets me to know that being in such a multi-diverse country a group of people still find it hard to accept the other person for they are. Canada is known as a mosaic because of the range of diverse communities who live here. It is acceptable to celebrate culture, to continue one’s own traditions, and to be who we want to be. I am born to parents of the same origin but they follow different religions.
My mom is a Hindu by birth and my dad follows Christianity. While growing up I have had people around me who ask me questions like, “What religion do you follow?” or saying me things like, “Oh! Your dad is a Christian. So do you go to temples or only churches?” It really never bothered me or my parents which religion I was following. As long as I knew the difference between right and wrong my parents were okay about everything people questioned around me. I am actually glad to be born to parents who have different beliefs because I get to understand both sides of each community. We do have a lot of inter-religious and inter-racial marriages in my family. This helps us to break down the cultural barriers because people accept one another for who they are. The increase in multicultural and multiracial families has forced our society to re-evaluate diversity and reject racial myths and stereotypes.
