Mother - the Most Influential Person in My Life

Throughout my existence, I have come across the experiences of being a leader. I can play the role of the follower and follow the rules and instructions given to me as well as leading people towards a particular goal. I have encountered characteristics by being a part of groups in school for class presentations and assignments, being the president of the youth choir in my church, and as well as being a part of different organizations and clubs. Today in “The most influential person in my life” essay I will explain who is the person that has gave me an example of being a leader - in other words who is the person that has shaped me as a leader.

My mother is the most influential person in my life. I look at my mother as being a leader because it has been so many situations where she has encouraged me to be best that I can be. I am a stronger person because of my mom. Through all of her struggles and hardships, she has never given up on hope for a better life. There was a time when I felt that there was no more hope in life, that I felt very exhausted and was about to give up everything. After all the problems I had in school and my grades started to go down, I was unable to deal with any problems that came my way and did not know what to do. However, my mother was always there to motivate me and let me know that I should never give up. I observed my mother and her mistakes and learn lessons from them. She has taught me a lot of things in life and her endless support has made a difference in my life. As I look back at the things I have done in life, it would not have been possible without having someone important like my mother in my life.

According to Internet resources, a democratic leadership, also known as participative leadership or shared leadership, is a type of leadership style in which members of the group take a more participative role in the decision-making process. I have shown democratic leadership characteristics because I accept input from other people when making decisions and solving problems, but I like to have the final say when choices are made. As a democratic leader, I have a positive attitude towards everything, and I am willing to pay attention to others’ input in the group. I know how to be flexible and make decisions based on the difficult circumstances I am being faced with. I am very responsible and always trying to do better. I can offer critical constructive feedback and realize when there is an issue and point out what is wrong. In some situations, I can include new ideas, but I can’t always think outside the box. When I am in an uncomfortable place, I tend to lose confidence in myself and get insecure.

I tend to be the leader in most situations, though I can think of plenty of times when it was better for me just to follow instructions of others. My mother is that person who gives me endless amount of motivation and inspiration. With her help I have learned a lot about myself and where I can improve to prepare myself to be a better leader. Even though I have gained plenty of experience, I still have a lot of other things to learn to become a better leader, such as being more confident and becoming a better public speaker.
