My Aspiration For A Career In Media
Media has been the subject that has interested me the most at A-level, so I hope to study the subject at University to enhance my skills and knowledge even further. The media is such a dynamic and rapidly changing field, as the world is continuosly becoming more digital advanced due to the better and improved technology being introduced regularly. I am particularly interested in digital media and how the world has expanded digitally to reach its target audience through different media platforms like: social media, advertisements and websites. I believe the subject will always being engaging as well as enjoyable, as there will always be new trends in the multimedia world to learn and develop my understanding on.
While studying Media at A-level, I have consistently worked to the best of my ability to produce different multimedia products that are conventionally accurate for its purpose as well as its target audience. Learning about the different codes and conventions has shown me that each media product has to be carefully designed and planned, which has resulted in an improvement in my critical analysis and cultural awareness of the media. I was given the opportunity to produce several media projects including: a fashion magazine, a fashion linked website, and two advertisements promoting a specific product. This has allowed me to enhance my creativity, independence and decision making skills and has also allowed me to use different equipment including: video cameras, a tripod and a DSLR camera. The subjects I am studying at A-level compliment Media perfectly as they have given me the skills I can apply to my media course. BTEC IT has allowed me to develop my skills in several different software packages including: Microsoft and Adobe.
My problem-solving skills, creativity and independence has also developed as I have focused on a broad range of topics including: Spreadsheets, Animations, E-commerce, Communication and Employability Skills and Computer Systems. As a result, I feel confident using a computer, which links hugely to media as the majority of media platforms are produced and distributed now online. A-level Geography has allowed me to understand the value of different cultures and perspectives, and how important the news is to present information impartially from different perspectives globally. Furthermore, I am currently conducting an Independent Investigation within my Geography A-level, which has allowed me to test my critical analysis and writing skills. AS Biology allowed me to enhance my teamworking skills during practical work, as well as my organisational and problem-solving skills. This would be useful for Media at degree level, as I can work well under pressure and solve problems that I encounter quickly.
During secondary school I volunteered to be a peer mentor, which meant I was given the role to give students younger than myself help and advice. I extremely enjoyed this role as I was helping others, whilst gaining the skills to think responsibly to find the suitable solutions to their problems. I have taken part in the Barclays Technical Innovation Enrichment in college, which allowed me to improve my team work and time management skills. We were given a specific amount of time to design a website and app which linked to their given scenario (need to look at scenario). We had to present our ideas, which helped me improve my ability to extract, process and communicate key ideas to my peers. These skills can be used in a Media degree, as I can share my ideas confidently to a group. I have recently had an interest in photography, which has resulted in me carefully considering what angle and aperture will make the photo great for its purpose and a greater attention to detail. This interest has allowed me to improve my concentration, patience, as well as creativity, which are all skills that can be used in media.
I have also been to the Warner Bros. Studios Tour London for Harry Potter and the Coronation Street Tour, which gave me an insight in how much work is needed behind the scenes to make the mise en scene and setting look believable on screen. I am currently taking part in a free online media course to learn more about the subject I thoroughly enjoy and to expand my existing knowledge, which I can hopefully use at degree level. In addition, I am hoping to gain several additional skills from part time employment this next month.
I am a hardworking individual and will enjoy working in a creative environment with people who have similar interests to me. Overall, I hope that the skills a media degree will afford me, will allow me to pursue a meaningful and enjoyable career with an exciting and rapidly progressing field.
