My Inborn Leadership Skills And Strenghts
Since I remember, I have always had a natural inclination towards being a leader, and as I got older I fully understood that I was the kind of person that does not feel comfortable only by complaining and giving suggestions in order to make things better. I realised I wanted to be directly involved in the organization, motivation and application of solutions in order to increase the welfare of people.
First, while I was an undergraduate student I aspired to become the next President of the Economy Student Council. To achieve this, I called people of different generations to be part of my team, so that together we can improve the experience of students in college. Thus, in 2015 I had the honour to become the leader of the Economy Department for two years in a row. As president, I organised the first University Student Debate Tournament in which students of political science, psychology, law and economy debated current issues and enriched their study thanks to the multidisciplinary vision of the event. Moreover, I had the opportunity to help the Dean of the Faculty of Economics with the accreditation of the economics career of our university at a national level. Organizing students and informing our community of this process was critical to give the best impression of our academic sphere and university to the evaluators. In fact, that meant having meetings with professors, authorities, junior and senior students that lead me to a holistic view of what we had to work on in order to stand out. In consequence, the economics career obtained the highest grade of the university system of Bolivia, making it the best option to study economics in the country. Realizing that I was able to improve the situation of the students by creating synergy between agents motivated me enormously. Moreover, when my second big opportunity of being a leader came, I did not hesitate about it.
To sum up, some young people approached me with a very interesting project that later was named as Young People for a Better Bolivia (Jóvenes por una Bolivia Mejor in Spanish). The project’s main goal is to encourage young people to participate in political decisions and to have an active political participation. Having that in mind, we organised the first political debate among the Mayor candidates of La Paz. Furthermore, we put together different events with the participation of candidates for the presidency of Bolivia where teenagers and people in general had the opportunity to express their concerns and find answers to their questions. At this point, our organization is well stablished and it is an active platform that motivates young people to speak their mind.
In conclusion, I have the natural skills of a leader who is not afraid to take an active role in the decision making process. Inevitably I will always be working for the benefit of my community, be it my university, my workplace, my neighbourhood, my city or my country.
