My Leadership Potential To Take Part In Chevening Scholarship
When talking about leadership, I am always referring to Robin Sharma words that perfectly embodies my conception of leadership which say that “leadership as it is not about a title or a designation, but It's about impact, influence and inspiration. ”
I have always taken all the opportunities to become an outstanding leader in every spheres of life. I started in 2014 by integrating a leadership training program called Camp EXCELL which stands for Excellence in English Language and Leadership through which I was able to strengthen my capacities in leadership, networking and English language. However it also helped me to understand the meaning of being personally invested in contributing to my community’s wellbeing by being a servant leader by the community service part of the program. For instance, I led a team of 4 peoples that organized a collect of clothes that we donated to young students from a low income community in the neighborhood of Ivandry in 2015. Although there was not plentiful difficulties, there was a lot of disagreement between my co-workers. Realizing the potential damages it might cause, I tried to mediate them by personal communication. It was positive because this was my first time dealing with people with egocentric personalities. Nonetheless I was sure that a leader, I should be able to lead others to reach our goals. Eventually, by intensifying the communication I was able to reconcile them.
In addition to that, I joined CEERE in 2016 which stand for Club des Entrepreneurs Etudiants de Madagascar, a young led organization that promotes entrepreneurship and employment in Madagascar. This event, undeniably steamed inside of me the passion for entrepreneurship which in January 2018 directed me to be chosen among thousand young African leaders to undertake the YALI Program in South Africa.
That high quality training built up my business and leadership skills but also broaden my knowledge about actual issues that tackle the Sub-Saharan African Region. I was able to apply those new skills last August, when we organized the event "SALON DES PME ET STARTUP" that aimed to gather young entrepreneur, to provide them a space that would highlight their businesses and offer them a networking platform. I actively engaged myself in the hardest part of the project, the fundraising. Although we had worked really hard by visiting a lot of companies and partners, often times we received rejections that discouraged everyone in the team. However I did not give up and results came first when I was able to get fund from the company where I work and that motivated my peers to do the same. Those situations, always remind me that true leaders need to lead by example and to be accountable to their engagement by walking their talk.
In fact, as a young leader, I have good accomplishments and I strongly believe that the Chevening scholarship will move me forward by strengthening my skills, which I‘ll bring back to develop my country and my community.
