My Motivation To Enter The Business Administration Program At The University Of Amsterdam
The purpose of this letter is to express my motivation and interest in the Business Administration program at the University of Amsterdam, which starts in September 2019. I am convinced that this program meets all the aspects which I seek in a career in order to fulfill my personal and academic goals.
I am Daniel Santos, Ecuadorian scholarship recipient. I am 21 years old and I come from a humble and hard-working background- a family which has taught me to forge my path and fight for what I want to. I consider myself a dedicated, responsible, and most of all a perseverant person who, in spite of the obstacles put before me, gives his best to achieve his goals.
My interest in the administrative area was born there ever since I was a child who dreamt of having his own company. That is why later on, I chose a specialized high school which provided me with accounting and management bases and fundaments which would lead me to reach this goal. During these years I encountered subjects oriented to the creation of business, such as entrepreneurship, also subjects in the financial field such as financial analysis and accounting. In senior year, I had the opportunity to do an internship in a company in which I could learn a lot about project development, team working and decision making. However, due to the lack of management, organization and innovation, the company, where I did my internship, went bankrupt. At that moment, I realized that not only experience is needed when managing a business but also the knowledge behind it.
As well as this company, there are many others companies, in Ecuador, which have this lack of knowledge that when there is an economic crisis hits the area, these are severely affected, creating a disruption in the entire country. This is why country has given, like to many others, the opportunity to acquire essential skills and innovative knowledge from other countries in order to improve our current situation and create a better future for Ecuador. I aspire to be admitted into the programme of Business Administration at the University of Amsterdam, not only because is one of the best Business Universities in Europe and the world, but also because of their international approach. Acquiring knowledge about Economics, Marketing, Finance, and Accounting will help me to have a broader perception of the world of business and how to implement and improve the business strategies in developing countries like mine. Here, not only I am able to receive a theoretical view, but practice use to real-world problems as well. I am exhilarated to think that this learning has the potential to help me develop projects that can help the lives of Ecuadorians in an affective and groundbreaking way. However, I know that I still do not meet the requirement of necessary of English to enter to the programme. I must say that for me it was always difficult to learn this language and even more so when in a country like mine it is a privilege. Before coming here to do my foundation year I felt afraid of not understanding the language, but with perseverance and my dedication, I could demonstrate the opposite. I am aware that I must improve my English skills and I am sure over time I will achieve my goal. I know that a good level of English is important to start a university career, but the fact that my level is not as high as others, it does not mean that I am going to fail.
That is why I appeal to my university entrance because I know that perseverance wins over knowledge and that a test does not always reflect who we are and the potential we can give. Thank you in advance for your attention.
