My Opinion Of The Criminal Justice

In my opinion the system of criminal justice is very broken. In class we reviewed several situations in which justice was not served. For example many people were treated badly due to the color of their skin. We see this so many times via media. No one will ever forget what happened in Baltimore, Maryland and all the riots that followed. Another reason the system is broken is because it no longer is considered a threat in some cases. Many people continue to commit these crimes with no fear of punishments. Homeless persons also look forward to being house in jails and receiving food while there. These measures of stopping crime are not affective. We must start to look for new ways of stopping crimes. Another problem we face is the war on drugs. Marijuana is becoming legalized in some areas and not others, and those who are imprisoned are being there in an unfair manner. I feel there are many reasons as to why our system is broken. There are several complex issues and most answers are not easy to fix.

If I had the opportunity to make some changes to this system I would begin my changing some of the laws here. There are many I feel are unnecessary. Like traffic violations or unpaid debt should not result in jail time. I feel that if the rules weren’t as strict less people would be filling the jail cells. Jailing costs a lot of money and the prisons are becoming overcrowded. Another thing I would change would be the way police are screened. I feel many need more tests and evaluations before we allow them to become officers. There are so many bad police officers who are racist and treat the citizens badly. If we have better officers, the communities will be safer and free of prejudice. Many other problems have surfaced regarding issues like I stated. I feel that these changes would bring about a whole better system of criminal justice here in America.

My opinion of the criminal justice has changed a lot since I have taken this class. I feel that I am a lot more informed about these topics and I have learned to dislike the system now. I feel that the system is corrupt in several ways. I feel many innocent people are left in jails and many guilty are set free. I also feel that if you have a lot of money you will most likely be set free. This happens to many celebrities. In the case of O.J. Simpson we saw this. Even though he killed someone he was set free because money talks. In my opinion many changes need to be made to this system before it can be effective. If we want this to happen many changes within the system and outside of it must be made. Although there is corruption we must look at the good qualities this system has as well. I appreciate our officers and law enforcers within the country. We truly need their services.
