My Parents - My Heroes by My Side

In this "My Parents, My Hero" essay, I will explore the reasons why my parents are my role models and how they have taught me valuable life lessons through their actions. The society has multiple ways to describe a hero and explain what it means to them. In my view, a hero is a role model who sets an example, as well as teaches a lesson. A hero is someone to look up to in any situation and willing to help people. Movies portray heroes as brave, strong, helpful, and protective over people they care about. Besides, these superhero movies, all the heroes have one thing in common which is to save the world and protect their community. Therefore, in my opinion, the two people I see as my heroes are my parents because they are willing to go to any extreme to keep me safe and happy. Despite not having superpowers like the heroes in movies, my parents have always been there for me, providing unwavering support and guidance. From their selfless sacrifices to their unconditional love, my parents embody the qualities of true heroes, and I am grateful for all that they have done for me.

My parents were born and raised in Sri Lanka, they decided to move to Canada to have a better lifestyle with many opportunities. As well as, Canada was their first option because they had a lot of family and friends that lived in Canada. Therefore, my parents found it beneficial to move to a place with familiar faces. My parents both try to be involved in my sister and my life along with always being on our sides and being there for us. Many people tend to find their parents annoying because they can be overly protective, however, the kids of those parents need to understand the reasoning behind the way they act. For instance, it can be the way their parents were raised, to keep their child safe from facing any issues or other reasonings for their parenting styles.

In my view, my parents are my heroes because they are very involved, helpful and protective for both my sister and me. As well as, they have taught many skills and have been there for me through rough times. Most parents, teach kids to always do the right thing and never make mistakes, however, my parents taught me to do the right thing and learn from my mistakes. They also give advice based on their life experiences because they have been through a lot. For example, my mom lived in Sri Lanka and continued her education during the Sri Lankan civil war. It was really difficult because the whole area was very dangerous to be in because bombs were dropped from helicopters by the enemy. However, she still managed to finish her studies and become a teacher in Sri Lanka until she moved to Canada. Being in a new country was hard for her and tried to understand how things worked. Also, knowing a little English back then, she managed to raise two kids and make my sister and me be who we are today.

Another reason why my parents are my heroes is that they work hard to keep the family happy and safe. For instance, my dad owns three restaurants and manages to still be a part of my life and stay active even though he is busy with work. Amazingly, he tries to make time for his kids and ask about how everything is going. He also tries to make sure everyone is available on Sundays so the whole family can all spend time together and bond. My parents also try to help with homework that they understand to the best of their ability. Including they take good care of me when I'm sick like how any parents would. They give medicine, make soup and other remedies they think would help. Although they know that they shouldn’t be close to someone during a cold, because it is contagious, they still take care of me. Also, my parents believe in me, when I don't and know how to handle any situation. They are also very open and don’t make judgements, they trust me and my sister and care for us no matter what. Thus, my parents characterize as my heroes in life.

For these reasons, I consider my parents as my heroes since they show the same qualities as what a hero is and more. As well as, they set examples for kids and be a role model to guide them in the right direction. Also, they would risk their lives for their kids and no one could ever care for their kids as much as their parents. Therefore, my parents are my heroes and are very important to me.
