My Plans To Pursue A Career In The Power Sector
Motivation: Electricity has become a major problem where I originated; a town named Omuo Ekiti state, Nigeria. Sometimes we go a whole month without electricity which is disadvantageous to the town because it scares investors from investing in my town. This in turn skyrockets prices of goods. Supply of power has saddened my heart growing up as a child because it was at minimum level. With this grievance I was determined to put an end to this menace. This determination for change drove me into sciences in my secondary school. As time went on, the passion for science and technology was fuelled up within me. After high school, I enrolled into the best university of technology in Nigeria, Federal University of Technology Akure where I finished with cumulative grade point average 4. 40. During my fourth year in school, a particular course was taught, Energy conversion and storage. In this course I learnt alternative ways to get energy, this created an excitement within me as it brought a ray hope to the dream I have nursed all along. My love for energy physics as grown ever since which is why I want to further my education in this prestigious university of Concordia Research capabilities: My first major research project was my B. Tech.
Thesis, for which I constructed a 1kv inverter and installed the inverter in the Physics laboratory, further more I researched extensively on how power could be harnessed from various sources (sun, wind, geothermal, and electric grid etc. ) Upon the completion of this research I, presented a seminar to the department of physics on my findings. I believe the experience I had during this research period has helped me garner necessary research skills needed for graduate studies.
Extra-curricular/Leadership: As an undergraduate, I was the Lead tutor of National association of applied physics tutorials. I was responsible for organising extra-mural classes as well as teaching Mathematical methods 1&2 and outside the study zone; I was involved in some social and voluntary works as well. I have served as an Independent Team Supervisor that visited various orphanage homes in Abuja (FCT).

With the highly-qualified faculty members of the university and its state-of-the-art laboratory facilities which are requisites for thorough research works, I believe my goals are achievable. A chance at the much-coveted position for graduate studies will, no doubt, provide me with boundless opportunities toward my quest- personal development and a better world.
Future Goals: To achieve my target career goals, I plan to acquire my Masters in Concordia University and also acquire necessary professional skills to boost my efficiency. My long term goal is to return to Nigeria and assist in the power sector. Realising the importance and erstwhile low level of research works in aspects of electricity in Nigeria has provoked a self-challenge in me towards the contribution to knowledge and practice to make in this regard. I hope to have a career combining teaching, facilitating and consulting. My intention is to help educate and train aspiring physicist to be equipped with skills to address power. I also hope to provide assistance to agencies, organisations and the government in areas of innovations in Science and technology; through which new methods and solutions may be proffered to industrial problems.
