My Potential To Obtain A Master’s Degree In Business Administration
At some point in their career, every management student with an interest in marketing starts wondering about the old age, most often asked question - Should I pursue an MBA? On one hand, I have some years of experience of working in a corporate environment. On the other, I believe that an MBA degree for an institution such as Singapore Management University will provide me with a better framework to achieve my goals. Knowing that earning an MBA is, by no means, an easy task, I do believe that the reward for all the hard work is quite significant.
I believe a higher degree in business administration will help me adopt critical thinking and encourage me to beyond the typical problem solving methods to achieve a goal, whether that is being an integral part of a team, or improving a marketing campaign, lead generation, or creating brand awareness. Moreover, it is no secret that marketing is a dynamic field. It is constantly evolving and improving.
I would like to be well-versed in dealing with rapidly changing environments, which is something that an MBA can prepare me for. SMU is one of the premier universities in Singapore, where I can get international exposure and at the same time, a local perspective. This will also be applicable to my work as I intend to look for career prospects in South Asia. This trait is visible in SMU alumni as well. After speaking to them I am of the impression that SMU focuses on practical application of business knowledge, which is also evident with the compulsory internship. Also, Singapore is a city I love and have visited before. Its closeness to my home in Thailand is a significant factor in my program selection. After researching on SMU, I have come to believe that it does offer what I hope to gain from my masters. In return, I will contribute to the university as a person who participates in extra-curricular activities and takes initiative.
Having learnt Kathak (Indian Classical dance) for 8 years, I have participated in various classical dance competitions. The responsibility of a house vice-captain and house captain in class XI & XII respectively, developed strong leadership and decision-making qualities in me. My 2 year work experience at Axis Bank gave me opportunities to network with new people on a day-to-day basis, interact with the senior management and work as a team. I hope to use these skills to contribute to the many clubs and activities offered at SMU.
I feel that I will add to and learn from SMU and its environment. I am fully aware of the dedication and perseverance that a demanding MBA program requires and I will work hard to uphold the excellent standards maintained by the professors and fellow students. I would like to apply for an opportunity to work with some of the best minds in the world. I look forward with a sense of expectation that my candidature would be accepted.
