My Way Of Studying Computer Science
In a growing technology-oriented world, Computer Science is becoming a foundation for progress for companies. At a young age, I was curious when my dad would disassemble a computer, and I would inquire about what the different pieces were and what purpose they had. From this, I began to learn more about the fragments such as circuit boards to the different types of operating systems such as Linux. This has allowed me to understand the impact it has on our lives and the importance it has.
Initially, I gained an interest in Computer Science, when I participated in a women's engineering competition, which I was a shortlisted finalist. It involved me creating a solution to an environmental problem, where I constructed a website as a platform to present my idea. The process of learning about the details of creating websites sparked an interest into programming. In addition, whilst at work experience in an engineering company, I was informed of the different programs that they used when creating car parts and I was curious to how they created these programs that companies could use.
To assist my independent studies, I used books such as 'Python Crash Course’ by Eric Matthes in conjunction with Codecademy.com, which have assisted and acquainted me with the different types of programming languages. From using these, I have created a program for receipts that a shop can use, and I have begun to create a game. My A-level subjects have helped me to gain deeper knowledge and insight into the subject.
A-level Maths has helped me analyze and look and situations more critically, whilst also providing assistance when problem-solving and understanding equations, which can be used in computing. As the business world expands and uses technology for further development, Economics has also helped me understand intrinsic principles, that are the foundations for economies to be sustainable, and how technology could help aid and solve problems such as efficiency and scarcity.
Outside of school, I participate in a variety of diversified hobbies. Due to Japan being attached to game development and as a personal interest, I have begun to self-teach with hopes of proficiency. Moreover, I have also begun to learn the piano which has sharpened my focus and has taught me perseverance and determination. I have been a Science and Transatlantic student leader, where I created activities for science classes, and had the opportunity to help the younger leaders. From this, I have exercised my communication and teamwork abilities, by working on a project with American students to solve water issues that are prevalent throughout the world.
Due to my intrigue, it has inclined me to seek a career in Computer Science that could help me evolve to create solutions to help and provide support for both the economic and social world. Through studying further, I wish to make a positive impact by creating solutions and developing research that can solve a variety of issues. By accomplishing my studies, I believe I can fulfill my ambitions.
