A Narrative about The Incredible Journey of an Oxygen Molecule

The oxygen molecule - the one thing “they” need to survive. We can just float around minding our own business, but we have a job. To keep this weird circular orb in a black space alive. And “they” aren’t too appreciative of that. As a matter of fact, I’m stuck in this red tube that brings me round every corner non-stop, as liquids enter and exit from me. So, here’s the story.

I’m floating around the air as some weird molecule I’ve never heard of, near some big building across this road, but before I know it, I’ve been sucked into a tree! Thankfully, the tree does its business fast and lets me go, but I’ve changed back into an oxygen molecule. Guess that happened. Then a bunch of weird. . . things, start coming out of the building! From experience, I’ve seen what they do to oxygen molecules. They use them, endlessly, with no end, no escape! I make sure to steer clear of them.

I decide to test what I can do as an oxygen molecule. Firstly, I end up getting absorbed by a cow. Of course. I come out as a weird brown thing. Yuck. Least they can do is breath me back out again. It was weird inside a cow, there were strange red tubes that lead everywhere, with fellow oxygen molecules. Me and a few others start going down a weird tube, which brings me to realise that we’re safe for now.

I smell something delicious as I see smoke flying into the sky. The molecules in there look rather happy for some reason. I notice someone in the distance that looks rather tired – no wait, they’ve got a lack of air. They won’t be getting my help any time soon. . . but I have a tendency to lie to myself, and end up helping them anyways. Bad idea. Now I’m going everywhere in tubes similar to the cow’s, but now there’s this giant pumping thing that I’m going through of, as what I’ve been informed as “de-oxygenated blood” enters me. I’m quickly greeted by a bunch of faces who are telling me strange things I don’t really understand. I quickly make my exit after the blood delivers me to the brain, of who I convince to let me go. Phew.

Nevermind. Now I’m a flower. Or am I? No, I’m just exiting a flower. Now that I know of this rebirth thing, I’m going to test out what I can be absorbed by and what not. This will be an interesting and probably painful experiment, even though I can’t feel pain.

Almost everything can take me in, and only few spit me back out again. Unfortunately, I’ve landed in the wrong place and are now in one of “Them” again. I’m just glad I managed to help tomatoes, bananas, animals, you name it. But now I’m in the loop again, bringing us to where I am now. Will I be released? Probably not. I’ve found some nice molecules here, so I think I’ll be fine. . . for now.
