Persuasive Statement Against Smoking
Smoking is seems something usual and even natural nowadays. Cigarette manufacturers have moved to a new level and begun to produce products that seem to cause less harm to health or have no negative consequences at all. Nevertheless, this is only a lie imposed on us and in the persuasive essays on smoking where we will analyze in what way smoking destroys our bodies. Smoking causes strokes, hearing loss, blindness, atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries), peripheral vascular disease, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Slowly, bit by bit, smoking harms the alveoli in your lungs, which forces your cardiovascular system to work harder. This creates a multitude of other problems relating to your cardiovascular system, such as asthma and pneumonia. There are also many types of cancers that are caused directly from smoking, which are nose, mouth, throat, lung, stomach, pancreas, esophagus, bowel, tongue, liver, kidney, bladder, ovaries, cervix, bone marrow and even voice box cancer.
It is mostly obvious when someone has been smoking, because they have yellow teeth, yellowish-brown fingers and fingernails, wrinkles (even when they’re young), and hair loss/grey hair. The discolouration of teeth and fingernails caused by the tar in smokes. The main reason that smoking causes hair loss and wrinkles, is due to the fact that it shrinks blood vessels and makes circulation of oxygen much harder. Hair and skin needs oxygen and nutrients to grow healthily, and it simply does not receive this when you smoke.
Do you really want to be ‘that kid’? If you smoke, you basically force those around you to smoke. When smoke that you have exhaled is breathed in from someone around you, it is called passive or second-hand smoking. And, if you smoke indoors, a layer of low-lying smoke is created, since the smoke is denser than air and cools quickly. This causes a multitude of problems for the secondhand smoker, mainly lung cancer, heart disease, stroke and hearing problems. It increases the risk of nasal sinus cancer, throat cancer, larynx cancer, breast cancer, loss of lung function and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Do you really want to be forcing a cigarette into your friends’ mouths?
And what about children? Secondhand smoke leads to higher chances of children developing asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia. It also creates higher chances of sudden unexpected death in infants. By smoking, you are literally slowly murdering anyone who walks past. It affects your family, friends and your entire community.
Overall there are over 7000 different chemicals in a single smoke. 70 of which have been studied and are known to cause cancer, although majority of chemicals in cigarettes haven’t been studied. Smoking doesn’t only affect you internally, it also affects your physical appearance.
