Possible Health Issues Among Post-Secondary Students
The following are number of health issues among the post-secondary students:
Lack of physical activities: The first and foremost reason for the lack of physical active it is a sedentary lifestyle which can lead to various harmful diseases like Blood pressure, Cardiovascular, Obesity, Osteoporosis, Depression, Anxiety, Diabetes and risk of cancer.
Mental Health: It is also a leading issue in today's youngsters due to depression and anxiety which brings mental disorder, for example, bipolar and Schizophrenia.
Drugs Addiction: Some of the main causes of drug addiction are peer pressure, Family and personnel issues, experimenting and could be the pressure of study. This can cause many issues including family, can lead to crime or legal issues, behaviour change, and other health issues.
Poor Nutrition: The poor nutrition means taking insufficient or poorly balanced diet with no with regular physical activity, which can cause many health problems.
Obesity: Obesity is defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 and more. Eating more calories than you burn in daily activity and exercise causes obesity. Over time, these extra calories add up and cause you to gain weight.
Communicable Diseases: The communicable diseases are those which transmitted from one infected person to another by direct means. Financial Issues: the Financial issue is the situation when a person is tensed regarding money which can cause you a stress. More, I may also lead to the mental health.
Sexually Transmitted Infections: The sexually transmitted infection is a disease which can get by having sex that can infect your sexual and reproductive organs.
Chronic Pain: The pain which is last long for more than twelve weeks. Chronic pain may arise in many health problems such as sleep disturbance, fatigue, decreased appetite, and mood changes.
Time management: time management is the process to organize each and every activity, plan it and divide it in a specific time limit. With this we can reduce our pressure of work, the work can be done in the less time. If we are not doing our things in my regular time then we will get some issues and which may cause stress. Nowadays every health issue is very concerning. However, according to me, the main health concerns among a post-secondary student population is the expansion of mental health day by day.
The possible situation for making this state worse are:
Financial Stress: In this scenario the first and foremost reason behind the mental health among students are the cost of tuition fees. Other issue could be the culture shock for the international students and along with that is to find the job is also the major concern.
These problems can cause the anxiety, social withdrawal, depression and many other serious concerns. The possible situation for making this state better are:
Scholarships: This situation can be better if we provide some scholarships to the students. Furthermore, the tax free text books, on campus jobs, free basic learning materials, and free accommodation.
Mental wellness: The institution should provide free counselling for those students who are having some mental health issues.
Possible solutions, interventions and actions to deal with the situation
Solutions: Peer support: According to me, first think which can work will be the talk therapy. In this a person can share their emotional state with their colleagues.
Changing Lifestyle: Changing lifestyle could be the things which gives the person pleasure and happiness, for example exercise, meditation, travelling and so on.
Psychiatric help: In some of serious cases the psychiatric help will be the only solution to deal with a person who having mental disorder. Moreover, a variety of tests are recognized by the medical community as legitimate assessments of a mental health problem.
Meditation: Meditation helps to reduces anxiety and reduction of depression. It also helps you to conquer your fears.
Interventions: Mental health issues can quickly escalate into tragedies. Sufferers of mental illnesses mistakenly believe that they’re alone in their struggles and don’t reach out for help on their own. Mental issues disrupt sufferers’ entire life, including the way they think, feel, act, function, and relate to others. If left untreated, a mental illness can be debilitating. Luckily, prevention and early intervention are effective ways to manage a mental health issue before it does too much damage.
