Exploring the Root Causes and Consequences of Poverty

Marie Curie a French-Polish Physicist said, “Each of us must work for his own improvement and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity.” Did you ever saw a kid sleeping on the streets at night? Or a family who lives near a garbage dump? Or, have you ever experienced the heavy traffic in manila? Yes, that was some of the problems that our country needs to overlook. I will discuss this in poverty cause and effect essay.

Being aware of the issues our country is facing today is important for us to understand the situation of our country and also to understand how it affects the different community identities and people in our country. The purpose of this essay is for us to gain more knowledge and for us to deal about this problem that we experience. Also for us to be informed about it so we can think of a way on how we can lessen those problems. Most of us Filipinos experienced an environmental and economic problems here in our country even our own problems can affect the entire country. Our country has been face with a lot of problems from the smallest aspect up to the most grievous ones. Sometimes with all the problems that the government is handling most of the time they overlook some problems which they render not important when in fact they are something that we should pay more attention.

“Extreme poverty anywhere is a threat to human security everywhere.” a quote from Kofi Annan Seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, Poverty is the main issue in our country rather in the entire world. In the Philippines when you walk around at night you’ll see many people living on the streets no food and shelter. Most of the time the poor people was being disregarded by the government was being ignored by the society and wasn’t able to receive proper treatment by other people. There are many words to define poverty there are lot of cause and effect of poverty which leads to a bigger problems in our country.

Poverty remains the central development issue in the Philippines the country has not been able to sustain the economic growth required to reduce the poverty to acceptable levels. Why poverty does remains a top issue here in the Philippines? The first cause of this issue is because the gap between the elites and the poor. The treatment to the elites is very different on how they treat the poor ones. Nowadays there are lots of situations wherein if you are an elite you would be a priority in any category while the poor ones are being disregarded by many.

Major causes of poverty becomes another issue in the country. One cause of poverty in our country is the corruption. Corruption is an unconscionable advantage profit or gain of injustice through the abuse of authority and power. One of the big factors that contributes to poverty in Philippines is corruption a problem that doesn’t seem to end. Because of these corruptions funds are getting short for health education agriculture and other important matters. Each government official is given a certain amount of money in order to pursue their desired projects to help financially challenged Filipino citizens in order to rise out of poverty and for the development of the Philippines as a whole. But these projects were never put into action and the money wasn’t being distributed equally.

The result of corruption in our country affects a thousand of Filipinos and it increases the poverty in the Philippines. There are lots of projects that is being stopped due to the lack of funds. Solution to this problem must be address to the government easily to lessen the poverty here in our country. There must be an efficient and effective way in our tax system. To effectively and efficiently collect taxes from taxpayers especially from politicians, we have to upgrade our tax system make registrations of tax, declarations of payments online and eliminate unnecessary regulations that only make our system more complicated. Through higher technology it can help communities document cases of corruption by developing reporting platforms on the web or through mobile apps. Social media in particular is an effective way to address corruption in real-time. Another cause of poverty is the lack of education in our country. The lack of education of Filipinos living in the slum areas in major cities of the country is the void that keeps the gap between the rich and the poor. It is one of the major contributory factors that has caused the Philippines to remain as a third world country aside from corruption in government. Due to the corrupt leaders school materials classrooms and teachers isnt enough to sustain many students who are going to school. The government is very low in giving quality and standardized education to provinces. They rather give much time to schools in manila. Also the instructional materials for the teachers are not enough.

The other cause of poverty is the overpopulation and the reproductive health in our country. Overpopulation will place great demands on resources and land leading to widespread environmental issues in addition to impacting global economies and standards of living. The issue is compounded by the difficulty in providing solutions for this problem and misunderstanding of the causes and effects of over population. Overpopulation in the Philippines affects the whole country the land and water mass of our country was being minimize and was used to build more infrastructure even our natural resources are being destroyed because there wasn’t enough space for the millions of Filipinos living here.

Overpopulation causes traffics, compresses people, and poor family management. In the Reproductive Health law the government must create an action to educate everyone about the proper family planning the uses of contraception must be given to the poor families and they must be educated on how the RH law was being done. This issue gives a lot of negative effects to the country. The effect of overpopulation on the world’s wildlife is also a major issue. As demand for land grows so too does the destruction of natural habitats such as forests. As the population grows so too does the amount of resources needed to keep so many people alive. Food water and fossil fuels are all being consumed at record rates placing greater demands on producers and the planet itself. Overpopulation directly correlates to climate change the largest single threat to the ecology and biodiversity of the planet in the decades to come will be global climate disruption due to the buildup of human-generated greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Solutions to this problems is to educate the people especially to the poor about sex education.

Another profound effect of poverty is vulnerability. Vulnerability is often taken as an outcome of poverty because it makes the poor individuals or groups more exposed to emergencies and stress and being poor either due to lack of capital or other resources the poor are unable to cope with these contingencies.

Overall, proper education is very important for the people for them to understand the different faces of our country. But here in the Philippines the education isn’t good for the students. Students must learn from school but rather they became stress because of school. Students must enjoy staying in school because they are engaging with other people and because they learn something new but Philippine education system is different the Philippine education system is trying to compete with other countries and they are trying to reach high level of education Philippines was still adjusting to the new education system that’s why students is having a difficult time in staying at school. We have heard a lot of issues of students because of school that is why government should also be concerned about students who lacks in education.
