Preparing For Winter As An International Student In Canada
Winter is the coldest season of the year and yet, one of the seasons people look forward to especially for international students with no winter in their countries. It starts at around December after fall and ends in March in Canada. It feels very cold in every region of Canada all throughout the winter season. The temperature reaches up to negative degree Celsius and the region gets covered by the snow and looks very beautiful as the sun shines on it. The atmosphere becomes dry which causes people to get winter related diseases while staying outside. However, kids enjoy playing outside on winter season. They make snowman, play snowball fight, go skiing and make a snow angel. On the other hand, students find it challenging to go to school during this season. The road is filled with snow, the bus gets delayed sometimes and the breeze of the wind is freezing as it blows off to their faces. Preparing for school in winter days is one of the challenges every student face in Canada.
Firstly, students need to buy winter clothing before the winter starts to make them warm for the cold season. They need to dress in layers in order to withstand the coldness and the freezing blowing wind. People wear a shirt first with a sweater on top of it, with a pair of gloves and a winter jacket. Moreover, others can’t tolerate the extreme coldness, so they wear scarves and a winter hat to add warmth. Also, well-insulated boots will keep their cold feet warm and keep going while stepping on the freezing road.
Secondly, they need to consider their transportation going to school. If for instance a student uses car going to school, he should consider checking some of these before the winter: car’s battery, wiper blades and tire. Battery of the car must be checked because some batteries won’t start due to extremely cold temperature. Also, make sure your wiper blades are up to the task. Consider getting snow tires to keep their grip in a snowy and icy road. If one is commuting, time management is essential. It gets hard to get up early in the morning due to cold temperature. It would be difficult to walk in a snowy road and would lead to a delay of arrival in the bus stop. Tendency, you’ll be late for your bus.
Thirdly, eat nutritious foods and take vitamins to boost your immune system. People easily get sick during winter season because they catch colds due to increasing number of viruses. On winter days, the sun is sometimes not out which could lead to deficiency in Vitamin D. Vitamin D is primarily taken from exposure to sunlight. It is mainly responsible for bone mineralization. However, when Vitamin D is deficient, bone softening occurs which results to bone softening diseases such as osteomalacia and osteoporosis.
To sum up everything, preparedness is the key to welcome the cold season. Anticipating the probable needs for this season helps lessen to experience mishaps common during this time. One can enjoy winter to its fullest if they are healthy and properly warmed. Winter is a nice season to go out and make good memories especially during Christmas.
