Purpose And Sector Of Water Aid

All charities and non-profitable organisations exist to help a particular cause. Charities aim to raise money to help their cause, or to raise awareness of an issue or the plight of a section of society. Charities raise funds to support the cause from public donations, sakes from the charities own high street shops, ecommerce sales, government grants and lottery finding, as well as traditional fundraising from activities which encourage leisure yet help towards the cause. These can include raffles, with prizes for the winners as well as events such as 10km walks.

The information I am now going to present has been extracted and modified from the official website. Water Aid have a strategy, this consists of what they want to achieve. They have created a ‘Water Aid’s Global Strategy 2015-2020’ this is currently in the process. Water Aid have a vision, this vision is for a world where everyone, everywhere has safe water, sanitation and hygiene. In order for Water Aid finally see this vision in reality they need to reach their mission. Their mission is to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene. Water Aid also has values which define their culture and unite them across the many countries around the globe that they work with. They have described these people around the world as ‘Very close to the heart of Water Aid – who they are and how they do it’. Here are the values I have found for Water Aid:

  • Respect – Water Aid treats everyone with dignity and respect and also champion the rights and contribution of all to achieve a fairer, more equal world.
  • Collaboration – Water Aid works with several different people to maximise their impact, respecting diversity, difference in the pursuit of common goals.
  • Accountability – Water Aid are accountable to those whose lives they hope to see transformed, to those they work with and to those who support the charity.
  • Innovation – Water Aid are creative and agile, they are always learning and developing on skills to take risks to accelerate the change and reach their vision as soon as possible.
  • Courage – Water Aid claim that they are bold and inspire in their actions and words, and uncompromising in their determination to pursue their mission, which one day they hope to see out.
  • Integrity – Water Aid believe that they act with honesty and conviction and that their actions are consistent with openness, equality and human rights.

Water Aid works closely with its partners in local communities to utilise low cost technologies to deliver sustainable water supply, sanitation and hygiene solutions to the poor in the economically less developed countries. Water Aid’s vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation. There is a lot of information on their official website, I will pick out the main points and discuss them below. They want to change the world and help under privileged people who struggle every day on necessities such as water, sanitation and safe toilets. Personally I am a huge fan of Water Aid and their amazing purpose therefore am a current member of their campaign of 2018, where due to the purpose I am involved in donation every month. Water Aid falls into the tertiary sector because they are providing a service to the unfortunate, who haven’t got access to clean, potable water, good sanitation and good levels of hygiene. The tertiary sector has been mentioned with its official Google definition above. Tertiary sector – This is the sector where the made products from the manufacturing stage are then open to be sold to customers. Waitrose sits in this section as they are a store with products and goods available to be purchased to the public. Services can also be sold as well as goods, therefore the Water Aid falls into this sector too as they provide a service to the public.

Water Aid also provides products to both the people in need as well as the people who are generously contributing with the cause. They provide the Beneficiaries with toilets, water pumps, fitters and so much more, however, as this is a constant thing they are giving to these people it is known as a service as the fitting of these pumps and settling these in are also done by the Water Aid team. The donors are rewarded with gifts, updates and cheap freebies such as teddy bears, pens, photos of the people they are helping and other bits. Although this isn’t a proper goof it still comes under the title of goods, this is given to the4se donors as a good gesture by Water Aid. They can use these cheap items to advertise and encourage people to donate.

Personally I believe it is a good idea because it shows a good gesture on their behalf as well as keeping a good, strong relationship between the donors and the company itself.
