Research On How Tattoo Affects The Lifestyle Of Students

For my primary research, I will carry out a survey among the students of NSU and get to know their opinion on the specified matter. I will also try to interview those people who have tattoo to know the real impact of it as it will help me to conduct my research in both the positive and negative aspects. I will also design a set of questionnaire which will help me in answering my research questions.

For my secondary research, I intend to use online/internet resources such as articles related to the research topic where there was any previous research conducted on a topic similar to it. I will also use through academic journals, blogs, articles, newspaper, magazine as well as search engines such as Google to aid me in my research work.

Primary data presentation and Analysis

For this research a total 30 people were surveyed. From them 16 were male representing 53% of the total respondents and the other 14 were female representing 47% of the total respondents. From the age group it can be easily seen that the majority of our respondents which 67% belonged to 18-22 years, then 27% are belonged to 23-25 years and 6% are belonged to more than 25 years old.

The pie chart shows us most of the respondent like 47% have just 1 tattoo, 45% have 2 tattoos, 6% have 3 tattoos and 2% have more than 3 tattoos. From the analysis it is very clear that people are more interested in making 1 or 2 tattoos ignoring more number of tattoos. Actually people are more attracted of doing less tattoos which is influenced from the western culture. The result also shows me a very clear idea that they put tattoo for a little period of time avoiding longer time period. 56% people have tattooed for less than 3 months, 18% for 3 months, 23% for 6 months and 3% just for 1 year. But no one has carried their tattoo not more than 1 year. Sometimes it becomes difficult to maintain tattoo for a longer period of time as it is costly. But people are getting used to do this day by day as generation has changing very rapidly.

The thing is that most of the respondents have got their tattoos from Bangladesh which is 70% but only 30% respondents have got their tattoos from abroad. That means people are making tattoos from local designers but if they can afford they can go abroad making tattoos. So they go for doing tattoo locally which sometimes creates wrong complications.

Surprisingly people are more exposed to drawing tattoos because they want to enhance the look of the body which is the thought of 37% of the total respondents. Both to display artworks and to look mature are same 23%. Finally 17% respondents think that they make tattoo to express themselves. Majority people actually want to modify their body by doing tattoo which they seem look good. In fact that’s why they go for doing tattoos.

There are some group of people who actually feel that they shouldn't have tattoo. So the above chart shows that 53% people don't feel to do tattoo because of religious purpose. For hygienic reason 20% avoid doing tattoo, 14% avoid it because of unprofessional and 13% avoid this because of Aesthetic purposes. Actually it depends on individual why they are avoiding to do so.

Surprisingly 56% people have agreed with me that tattoo can cause skin disease and health disorder. 17% people strongly agreed this matter, 20% were neutral and almost no one strongly disagreed this matter. Many people that’s why don’t go for doing tattoos as they have some misconception about tattooing.

Many people have faced, from my respondents, negative issues. Both skin disorder such as staph infection or eczema and burning or swelling at the tattoo site are same 37%. Blood borne diseases such as hepatitis B and C, faced by 20% and Diabetics is faced by 6% of the total respondents. The surrounding area sometimes gets burnt and many people can afford to get rid of this problem. As they are doing tattoos locally, it becomes very difficult to get good artist as well as elements. As people are facing negative health issues after drawing tattoos, it's very important to know what is the reason behind this. 57% people are thinking that unhygienic elements were used in the pigment during drawing tattoos. But 43% have said that unskilled artist could make the work perfectly. So it actually varies from individual to individual. Things are very complicated when it becomes locally. So everyone should concern to do this before considering these two things. .

People judge me negatively as it conflicts with local culture is said by most of my respondents which is 43%. People judge them positively as it's trendy is said by 23%, faculty members don't take it positively as it's unprofessional said by 20% and 13% of my total respondents actually don't care about what other think about their lifestyle. But situation are changing and many people are accepting this.

Discussion

Throughout my research I have found that maximum people who were my respondents agreed with me. In fact, both female and male are interested in drawing tattoo. Ethically or religiously it is sometimes controversial but a real fact of interest. Maximum people of them also know the health aspects of drawing tattoo. But a very few of them do not know the health aspects after drawing tattoo. Some of them have agreed that it may cause skin diseases and health disorder. Through my research, I have also found that many students believe that tattooing is not the harmful for the body and they have never faced any complications but many of them agreed with the crucial one. Many of them thought that they faced negative impact within NSU after tattooing as it is not professional. But few of them actually disagreed with this. From the overall research, it can be easily said that a person’s tattoo reflect their personality and put some impact on his or her health.

After completing the overall research, there are many thing regarding tattoo has come to my mind. As tattoo has both impact on our personality and health, a lot things must be considered before drawing it. So depending on the place and situation we have to take decision about it. As I understand that there is a huge complication after drawing tattoo because of unskilled artist and unhygienic elements, it must be taken with full concern. Considering all the risks, it must be done. If we want to follow western trend it must be considered that it doesn’t conflict with our local tradition. Overall it must be taken concern and break all the taboos regarding this.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it can be said that tattoos are seen everywhere. Mostly on television and even in celebrity culture basically form western part. It has become a very fast growing fashion trend in the western world over the last decade. But it is necessary to keep in mind that it has also some effects in physically and mentally. So everyone should know and be concerned about the health aspects of drawing tattoo before tattooing as well as everyone should keep in mind that a person’s tattoo reflect his or her personality. That’s why depending on the situation we have to choose whether we go for drawing tattoo or not. As tattoo is just a body modification nothing else. So it is better not to take the health risk just to look mature or show the artwork. Sometimes it puts bad impact in our academic side too. It has also kind of negative impact in our society as it conflicts with our culture. Therefore it is always better to justify all the matter before taking a decision. But situation has been changed in near future and we can adopt newer things in a better way. Finally I believe that, this research will help the students of North South University to understand the important thing about tattooing.
