Review Of The Book Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens By Michael Arndt
In a galaxy, that is ruled over by a dark force, a rebellion who intend to take back the galaxy and a small group of strangers who bump into each other and become great friends end up finding themselves fighting for their lives along a journey where one strives to find the location of the missing Luke Skywalker. This is the story of Star Wars Episode VII the Force Awakens, the novel written by Michael Arndt.
The novel contains many science fiction elements such as energy swords called lightsabers, ray guns and battleships in space. I’m sure many of you are aware of the Star Wars movies including Episode VII, if you are a fan of science fiction books or enjoy the movies I’d recommend giving the book a try because I enjoyed some of the extra insight and detail in the book that seems to be missing in the movies.
The movie skips a large portion of the first few chapters in the novel. The novel contains more information beforehand giving more insight on one of the main characters Poe and his droid BB8. It goes more into Poe as a pilot, a quote from the novel, “I can fly anything”. This was great for me as a reader because I felt like it was easy to understand the character. It was also a better start, it’s a slight bit easier to understand rather than in the movie where it immediately begins with action and shooting which in some cases needs a bit of an explanation before which the novel does well in doing this. While the novel is great at going in depth and looking into further detail it is also a novel you can read if you don’t remember the movie that well or haven’t seen it in a while but you need a book to read whether it be for school or you’re trying to read more at home.
This novel is an easy pick and I would definitely recommend it due to its intriguing storyline. The storyline of The Force Awakens follows the adventure of Episode VI Return of the Jedi 30 years later. Rey a young woman who is living on a desert like planet works by finding parts of old starships that crashed onto the planet’s surface many years ago. She comes into contact with Finn, a friend of Poe, not too far into the book. I won’t tell you the entire story. Though I’m sure many of you know it from the movie, Rey, Finn and Poe are these strangers who become the main focus of the novel and also the film. They come into dangerous contact with stormtroopers, (soldiers of the empire that rule the galaxy) many creatures and other characters throughout their journey but they help each other and become a team, “Why are you helping me? Because it’s the right thing to do”. The ending is something you’ll look forward to and reading the novel will all be worth it and you’ll have find yourself enjoyed reading that book as it was a great novel to get into and I suggest giving it a go sometime. It’s not a crazy long novel and it’s not so short that you’ll finish it in a few days but pick it up at the library for a good novel to read in your spare time. You’ll be gripped from the start and you’ll want to read it until the end.
I found myself enjoying this book due to its science fiction genre so if you’re into those kind of movies or books give this one a go, it’s a great book that took up some of my spare time and I’d say it was well worth it.
