Review Of The Rajkumar Hirani's Film 3 Idiots

The film by Rajkumar Hirani is a critical expression of the Engineering course in an Indian college. It uses Satire to express the complex realities of the university life. The story revolves around the life of 4 engineering students with different backgrounds, abilities, attitudes and life goals. The movie goes through to twist and turns, with comedy, logic, romance and serious scenes seamlessly blending to give a message to youth of the country. It gets a surprising conclusion in this scene shot at Pangong lake, which reveals identity of the main character of the movie at the last minute.

The movie happens in present and Flashback, when two of the friends are desperate to meet their third friend after years. The journey to find Rancho takes them to various places. As it goes, the viewers are taken back to the college days, when "Farhan" narrates various incidents showing how Rancho managed to stay light, energetic, calm, interested and thriving in their college life. One such incident shows a clash between Rancho and Chatur, leading to a challenge by the latter about who will be more successful in next 10 years.

A critical scene in movie is shot in Shimla, where this group of friends get to know, that their trio member was not "Ranchoddas shyamaldas Chanchad” (Rancho) at all, and that whole of his 4 years of studies in ICE, he was living under a fake identity. He was there just for knowledge and not for a degree. The movie takes a direction, to find who actually their friend is!

Chatur is now a successful engineer chasing a world famous scientist for a multi-million dollar deal. He feels he was winning their challenge and his competitior was just a school teacher. Finally Upon reaching Ladakh, the overconfident, arrogant Chatur learns a lesson. He gets to know the reality when Rancho speaks the line, "I won't be able to sign your deal because you took my pen away". This revealed that Rancho, was none other than "Phunsuk Wangdu”, the world famous scientist, Chatur was chasing, and that Rancho had won the challenge of being more successful In life.

Here at the climax, all the fancy talks and promises that the actor did in his college days, seemed to come alive as he had managed to be that great in his life. Something that not the education system, but his attitude have him.
