Review Of Unbalanced By Courtney Shepard

The story begins in the Middle Ages in Spain. It shows the history of the four sisters of power. It shows you how they were treated in a past life and lets you have an idea of who is hunting them and also lets you know that they are ruthless and will stop at nothing to destroy them.

The story moves on to Northern British Carolina, 1988 with the birth of four beautiful girls. The mother, Emma however barely gets to spend more than a moment with them before they are taken from her and then separated. This was done for their protection we later find out. The Four, as they are referred to in the book, are hunting these girls down and have been for a very long time and killing their reincarnations each time.

The setting of the story often changes as the four often have to move in order to stay alive. The names of the four girls are Asha, Avia, Mere and Ivy. The pacing of the book is well done with the writer giving us just enough information to peak our interest and give us insight into who each of the main characters are, their background and what makes them different as individuals. The tone fluctuates between formal and sad with great intensity throughout the book as is to be expected when the characters are trying to stay alive.

Asha has the power of fire and she is the first of the four to be introduced to us. The second to be introduced was Ivy whose has power over the earth which means that she can control both the earth and all that grows on it to an extent. Avia is the one of the four that has the power of air. She is the more reserved and cautious of the four girls with many questions about her past as there is a lot of mystery about it and very few answers. Last but not least is Mere, the child of the ocean. She has power over water and despite the circumstances, one can tell that she is the more playful one of the bunch.

The writer adds a very interesting twist to the book, which is one of the aspects of the book that I like the most and that is the four brothers. They are Clay, Aron, Cole and Rio who were trained by the Order to kill the four girls. Clay has the power of earth, Cole has the power of fire, Aron is air and Rio is water. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The reason for this is because it is a well written book with very few mistakes to be noted. It draws the reader in and is packed with intrigue that makes you curious to see how the story will unfold.

What I like most about this book is that the main characters are put across as human, meaning that their flaws are made visible making it easier for readers to be able to relate to them even though they have supernatural powers.

I would recommend this book to females in the 18-45 age group. It is the perfect book for those looking for romance, intrigue, drama, supernatural as well as strong female characters; you get not just one of those but four. This book is about four sisters that must fight to protect each other and themselves from those who would see them dead.
