Rick Riordan – The Author That Inspires Me
I love to read. So I’ve read lots of books from different authors. But the author that inspires me and other people in my opinion would have to be Rick Riordan. He has written the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, Heroes of Olympus series, and many more. He’s inspiring because he makes ‘different’ characters, he is descriptive, and makes his books funny.
One reason he is influential is that he combines Ancient Greece and/or Ancient Rome, Ancient Egypt, or Norse gods with modern day times and shows what someone from this day and age would be like if they had ancient blood in them. Seeing through the character’s eyes and how they react to having ancient blood in them really tells a story and helps them grow as a person. And having a different point of view because they are a ‘different’ kind of character, having ADHD or dyslexia which most characters in books don’t have usually have, shows what they feel and describe things and how they go through life struggles really descriptively. This means that you can really understand the character and how they are different than other people. Another reason that Rick Riordan is inspiring is that he is really descriptive and detailed-oriented. In every book he writes, every part is detailed to the amount that it should be. He doesn’t over detail things and he doesn’t under detail things. And every really important part is so descriptive and detailed, it doesn’t just feel like you’re there, it feels like you are the character.
An example of that is this quote in the book House of Hades. “He [Nico DiAngelo] sat back in his leather aviator jacket, his black T-shirt and jeans, that wicked silver skull ring on his finger, and the Stygian sword at his side. His tufts of black hair struck up in curls like baby bat wings. His eyes were sad and kind of empty, as if he’d stared into the depths of Tartarus—which he had. ” This means that you can really get a feel for what Nico DiAngelo looks like and his form and even what his eyes were like which you could tell if you right there. The last reason that he inspires me is that his books are funny but the story keeps going.
For example, this quote in the House of Hades is really funny and breaks up some of the darkness of everything else. “Lots of death, huh? Personally, I'm trying to avoid lots of death, but you guys have fun!” This means that they had to face death but he still made a joke to lighten things up and not be so heavy on the readers. I think that is very important to not always write heavy books but to make fun once in a while. Rick Riordan’s books are very inspiring and I think that he influences lots of authors and readers to be really descriptive and funny when they are writing their own books.
