Human Extinction Crisis: Taking Action to Save the Earth

Will The Mass Extinction of Humans Save The Earth? This is save earth essay that will give the answer.

7.7 billion people currently roam Earth, bustling through crowded cities on land, cruising in the sea and flying through the sky. Humans expend a massive amount of resources within one lifetime, rapidly depleting the available reservoir on Earth. Some argue that increasing product production will solve the problem. However, the Earth is still dying as mankind continues to expand factories and mine away at the natural resources provided by their planet. Others will say that decreasing the population of humans will save the planet. The mass extinction of humans will save Earth because it will allow the Earth to heal itself despite the devolution in the scientific progression of humankind.

When humans were first introduced millions of years ago, their population was kept in check by natural predators like every other life form. As they continued to develop weapons and technology to protect themselves from the dangers in the world, humanity soon stood on top of the food chain. This, combined with the inventions of science, allowed them to develop and grow in size and population to the 7.7 billion people today. This has only become a problem in the past century due to a decrease in death rates and the ability to prolong human life thanks to advancements in medicine and technology. Improvement in technology has allowed the human population to swell in size, impacting our environment and limited supplies. A hundred years from now, Earth might become a true dystopia with humans dominating the world’s population, as well as depriving and being deprived of all resources.

Many people would argue that the evolution of science humans have created will solve all the problems. Some consider the current overall population of humans to be an achievement due to advancements made in the medical field, increasing life expectancy and bringing down infant mortality. Late economist Julian Simons wrote against the many doomsday predictions regarding human population growth and considers the longevity of human life expectancy to be the “greatest human achievement in history”. The mass production of products today try to support the billions of people living on this planet. But is it enough? Throughout history, when a species is prosperous there is always a surge in population from steady food supplies and their ability to adapt to change. Many times, a plague or some other natural disaster sweeps away those who do not possess the genetic diversity to adapt to the change. Humans themselves destroy their own populations in man-made conflicts such as wars and nuclear disasters. Despite these conflicts, the system of balancing population growth has been overthrown with the rise in humanity’s numbers. Increasing factories and productions will lead to polluting the environment.

Experts have calculated a 42% rise in human population from 2003 to 2050, showing a continued increase in human population. As of now, the natural resources they consume continue to release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, proving to be difficult to reduce due to the amount of time it takes to neutralize the gas that lingers.Regardless of the attempts to reduce the number of natural resources an individual consumes, others will argue that global warming can be fixed with technological advancement. By further evolving technology, humans can increase production of resources. Excessive studying in this field may allow humans to break apart from their dependency on natural resources and limit the damage on Earth.

The causes of the degenerated health of the Earth are caused by one major factor- that humans, as an intellectual species have evolved and depleted the Earth of its resources. Coming from this viewpoint, many people can agree that the extinction of humans will save Earth. Mass extinction is, by definition, the death of an entire species. Currently, around 99.9% of species ever to exist on Earth are extinct. While this is a deadly event, it usually happens gradually with no distinct line between a “normal” extinction and “mass extinction”. In other words, mass extinction simply implies that a species is unable to adapt to change in time before being wiped out. This event also opens up opportunities for new life forms to emerge and evolve. For humans, it means starting from scratch. For the Earth, it’s a chance to rejuvenate and heal. Writer Ruedigar Matthes stresses that humans are part of nature, and the over development is bound to push Earth to the limit if they don’t take necessary precautions and will ultimately suffer the consequences.

In conclusion to how to save earth essay, the mass extinction of humans can save the Earth. Regardless of how hard we try to secure our own survival in hundreds or thousands of years, this would be the fastest way to allow the Earth to recover what we’ve been depleting for millennials. In the famous Avengers: Endgame released in April of 2019, we see half of life on Earth being wiped out in a snap by Thanos, who believed that all living beings in the universe were unsustainable, who would eventually consume all resources and destroy itself. Five years pass and whales are swimming in the clean waters of the Hudson River, which is currently still quite polluted in present day from sewage discharge, as well as factories that once lined the entire riverside. In the movie, Earth reviving even with half of the population still remaining. Endgame describes a simulation scenario that shows just how Earth can heal from the damage made by humans in such a short amount of time. This short term scenario is caused just by cutting down the population in half, the results of mass extinction for humans may be greater.
