Selfishness as the Key to Corrupting all Good Things
All our history has been constructed by the decisions of every person in their lives. This individuals are not neccesary important people like presidents, artists, emperors, drugdealers, soccer players, dictators, etc. Here we include all of us, and also them; when we said “person”, this is because our decisions have an impact on society and in history. “Every action we take impacts the lives of others around us”. This phrase applys for history and the impact of each person (follower or leader) who left a footprint through the years. With the passage of time we have seen how some leader sor their followers commit wrong actions by the selfishness in their hearts or minds, and not neccesary in the past, also in our present we see that cases too, thats why we said that selfishness has been the key to corrupting all good things.
The scientific development has been something essential not only for survival but also for human development, however this has also been a weapon to destroy not only people, but also nations, differences, idealities, etc. But the majority of the scientist does not have the intention to destroy, conversely, they search new things that helps precisely the develop of the world, and talking about this, the recognized scientist, Albert Einstein, who was an enigmatic person that born in the dark age of the communism and nationalism, he was a great scientist who create the relativity theory, the equivalency energy-mass, and other great things, nevertheless, the avarice of men of high command affect all the good intentions of Einstein, and he was forced to make the nuclear bomb, that years later destroy Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in short, the glory of one person was destroyed by the selfishness and greed of another, two factors that corrupt every action or positive moment in history.
“In an individual, egoism leaves the soul empty. For the human specie, selfishness is extinction”- David Mitchell, according to what he said, we can divide the statement in two important parts, the individual and the human specie; talking about the individual, we can said that the humans are always looking for the development of themselves, and that is completely normal, but there are other people who decide to destroy the integrity of the other in order to succeed in their projects, these people make that the human specie start having a deficit that depending on how much is the avarice, all the good things start to be corrupted and finally ends in the extinction of the specie, like David Mitchell say that selfishness is extinction.
Nowadays we can see a developed world that knows that every citizen, indigenous or any other ethnical community have same quality of rights, and depending of each country or community, the people have duties, but if we go back long time ago, we can observe that this did not exist, the human had something that “support” him, but not something that would guarantee protection, and this is why a lot of negative events, by individualities have generated so much destruction, and here we have the case of Adolf Hitler, who killed approximately 6 million of Judiths because the idea of selfishness he had on his brain; now we have the case of Joseph Stalin, that kills between thirteen and fifteen humans because his ideologies about communism and some misunderstandings with his trusted people and the ones who keep an eye on him, Erich Fromm says “greed is a bottomless pit that exhausts the person in an unending effort to satisfy their needs, without ever succeeding”, unfortunately this world is full of people like this, thinking that if they got all the studies, all the power, all the authority, all the terror of the people, they would be a great person, thinking that he/she really succeed, that they are going to become a historical person, and that is not correct, because they are going over the other, making the other vulnerable. Not going so far, another really important fact is the idea of creating the social classes and although it is true, this topic is very 'outdated', but from the moment in which it was created inequities and injustices began to occur, and basically all this caused by the ideas of the upper classes, of which only There was a beneficiary and they were the same; after all, the same people who allowed this, caused that little by little this began to grow to what we see today, where men wanting to become millionaires affect and corrupt the welfare of a noble and just society.
In our national context (Colombia), we have a giant list of all types of injustices made to society, we have violence as a principal character in our lives, and the goverment (the same we vote in favor) is taking the resources we need for being a better society and a developed country too.
Corruption is on another level, even our education is being violated, How our national development would change if the people doesnt have education?, one example of this case is a new from “EL ESPECTADOR” titled “They denounce corruption in the educational sector for 132,000 millions”(colombian money). Here is where selfishness won the battle on the responsables minds and hearts, where the society get they resources taken by the politics; selfishness is so powerful to makes people to steal the money for a diferent future.
Selfishness is so powerful that even politics stole the resources destinated to our medical services, just imagine how selfish you must be to stole the money tough to improve your people health, it is like stealing life. An example of this is the new from “El Tiempo” titled “By 18 routes they rob the money of the health of the colombians”.
Even our judicial branch is being violated by the enpowered people who manipulate the system to leave some criminals free, or this criminals pay to the judges to get their freedom; if the selfishness can break justice, When we are going to find a good country?, for this we have a new from “Semana” titled “ Corruption in Colombian justice”. We can see that selfishness take mens hearts and minds in order to steal the resources to improve their own nation, being selfish even brake our constitution, and if we dont have our constitution as a legitimate help, What do we have?.
In the other hand, we have other causes to corrupt good things, and other cases in which selfishness has been the key to maintain good things or been succesfull. Another factor that can corrupt good things is neccesity; for example, a men who doesnt have the money to pays his debts saw a lonely girl an steal her money, we can say that he really need that money, but, That was the only way to get the resource?; from our point of view he can do too many other things, not being that selfish to take someones money and maybe he had the money before and he wasted it in other things.
People in need may do whatever to survive in life. Imagine that somebody is taken to jail for something he didnt commit or something he really did, but he has a sickness wife and three childs who depends on him, so he knew a judge who is his friend and the judge leave him free because of his family situation, In this case we can apply Maquiavelo’s phrase “The ends justify the means”, but also this is another branch for being selfish, with the law and the people who believe in this, with justice and your nation.
On the other hand, many people raise the idea that selfishness is the key to be the best version of yourself, and it is not a bad idea, because one of the things or projects that most humans have, is to be someone in live, that means more dedication to their selves, more projects that they to develop in order to acquire the different knowledges, so that means be more focus on oneself, and it is in this part that a person can say that been selfish means one way or another a progress; in addition there are other factors such as hatred, revenge that cause society to become corrupted.
Nevertheless this “value” could affect in one way or another your social life, not only with friends, but with family, because two things, the first one is that you are demanding to much time to yourself, so you are setting aside your social circle; the second one corresponds of the great possibility of get depressed for not reaching the expectations, Albert Einstein said “If you want different results, do not do the same”, and with this it is summarized that not everything is necessary to execute in the same way, sometimes it is necessary to look for new alternatives to progress.
Selfishness has been the key to corrupting al good things, after seeing all the possible perspectives, our society lives in constant progress that involves the constant socialization on the part of citizens, that is why the characteristic of selfishness has hit so much in our society, today it is not negotiable for one person to pass over another, and if he does, he will know that he will be in trouble, but What do you get with all this? This finally allows us to know what decisions to take to solve this type of problems without having to threaten the integrity of the other, it is about knowing that the bull has the same rights as me but different objectives, which are to respect and not pass 'over' these.
In fact, this society depends of how much they let other people to manipulate the operation of this; stop thinking about all the bad things that affect the humanism in the past, and start thinking in how we can make of this world a better place to live? on how we make this world more honesty? and like all the cases, the time is going to give us answers in order to became not only better people, also to know that the society can´t stand waiting for a better history.
