Summer Associate Consultant Intern Program Application
It is with great excitement and eagerness that I am applying to work as a Summer Associate Consultant Intern at Bain & Company’s Toronto office. I am currently in my first year at the Ivey Business School at Western University, and have previously completed two years in Mechatronic System Engineering. I strongly believe that my drive, ambition and desire to learn make me an ideal candidate for the role.
My desire to work at Bain stems from attending several networking events and speaking with Sean Fry. I am especially interested in Bain’s unique culture of employee growth and commitment to client success. The familiar environment and potential for deep and meaningful relationships created by your company’s unique home-office staffing model are easily noticeable when talking to current employees, and are a driving factor as to why I want to work at Bain. In both professional and academic settings, I always strive to take initiative and tackle problems with an entrepreneurial mindset. I have spent the past two summers working as a waterski instructor at Camp Ramah in Canada. In my first year on the job, I noticed an inefficiency in the way waterskiing was taught to children with special needs. As a result, I took it upon myself to successfully restructure the system, leading to a significant increase in the number of campers with special needs who went skiing. My success in that role and my demonstrated leadership abilities propelled me to be selected as the head of waterskiing for the following summer, despite being several years younger than previous heads. In this new role, I was responsible for hiring, training and managing the new staff members. I am confident that these experiences identifying and fixing inadequacies within an established structure have helped me develop key skills related to problem solving, leadership, and teamwork that will allow me to contribute immediately as a member of the Bain team.
My passion and work ethic has consistently allowed me to rise to the occasion in challenging situations, and you will be able to rely on me to confidently take on new challenges and continue to create value for the firm’s clients. For example, I have a longstanding interest in engineering and robotics, and in my Grade 12 year my drive and will to succeed led my coaches and teammates to name me captain of the robotics team. To this day, I still compete in robotics competitions at Western and my refusal to be outworked continues to guide me to constant self-improvement. My relentless work ethic will translate well to working with Bain; you will be able to assign me work without worrying about whether it will be completed up to the firm’s standard of excellence.
I believe that the skills I have gained, and my unique educational and professional background have allowed me to develop both a strong interest in a career in consulting, and the tools necessary to succeed on the job. If given the opportunity to work with Bain next summer, I will relentlessly strive to deliver the most value possible for the firm’s clients, and go above and beyond expectations for my project teams. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your time and consideration.
